A new chapter in luxury hospitality has arrived in the Mother City with the opening of InterContinental Table Bay Cape Town.
The landmark property, formerly known as The Table Bay Hotel, has reopened following a multimillion-dollar redevelopment at the iconic Victoria & Alfred Waterfront.
Originally inaugurated in May 1997 by Nelson Mandela, the hotel now returns under the global luxury hospitality brand InterContinental Hotels & Resorts, part of the wider portfolio of IHG Hotels & Resorts.
Set between the Atlantic Ocean and the dramatic backdrop of Table Mountain, the 306-room hotel continues its legacy as one of Cape Town’s most recognised luxury addresses.

A reimagined hotel for the modern luxury traveller
According to general manager Joanne Selby, the reopening marks a new era for the property.
The redesign blends contemporary elegance with the building’s historic character. Interiors, led by LW Design Group and designer Gina Munro, highlight views of Table Mountain while maintaining elements of the original structure.
Specialists who installed the marble flooring during the hotel’s original 1997 opening returned to help redesign the foyer floor, while the building’s hardwood floors have been carefully preserved.
The property now offers 306 guest rooms, including 40 suites, designed for travellers balancing leisure, work and cultural exploration.

Technology designed for international travel
Guests will also benefit from a global partnership with Timeshifter, an app developed using circadian science and used by space agencies.
The service provides personalised plans to help travellers manage jet lag and adjust to new time zones more easily.
Dining experiences at InterContinental Table Bay
The hotel introduces four distinct dining venues that reflect both international and Cape-inspired cuisine.
• Le Bistrot de JAN – A French-inspired bistro created by Michelin-starred South African chef Jan Hendrik van der Westhuizen.
• Flint & Fennel – An all-day dining restaurant serving seasonal dishes and afternoon tea.
• The Botanist’s Table – A lobby lounge featuring botanical infusions, artisanal gins and South African wines.
• Solandra – A rooftop pool deck offering craft cocktails and wood-fired sourdough pizzas.

Wellness inspired by the Cape
Spa InterContinental Cape Town offers treatments that combine international wellness traditions with locally sourced botanicals.
Facilities include an authentic Turkish hammam, treatment rooms and a modern fitness centre overlooking the harbour and Table Mountain.
A destination for events and celebrations
The hotel also expands its events offering through the InterContinental “Incredible Occasions” concept.
Three elegant salons accommodate boutique gatherings of up to 50 guests, while the ballroom hosts larger events and celebrations for up to 200 guests.
Private dining spaces are available for proposals, anniversaries and intimate celebrations curated by the hotel’s culinary team.

Part of a global luxury network
InterContinental Table Bay Cape Town joins more than 235 InterContinental properties in over 70 countries worldwide.
The opening also strengthens the African presence of IHG Hotels & Resorts, which currently operates dozens of hotels across the continent in cities including Cairo, Luanda and Johannesburg.
Guests staying at the hotel also gain access to IHG One Rewards, one of the world’s largest hospitality loyalty platforms.
Located in the heart of Cape Town’s most visited precinct and within easy reach of beaches, Winelands excursions and ferries to Robben Island, the hotel aims to connect international travellers with the cultural and natural highlights of the city.
