After years of anticipation, Rockstar Games has officially confirmed that Grand Theft Auto VI will launch on 19 November 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
The announcement also revealed that official pre-orders will open on 25 June 2026, giving eager fans their first opportunity to secure a copy of one of the most anticipated video game releases in history.
Return to Vice City
Set in the fictional state of Leonida, Grand Theft Auto VI takes players back to a modern version of the iconic Vice City.
The game follows protagonists Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval as they become entangled in a sprawling criminal conspiracy that unfolds across the neon-lit city and surrounding regions.
Vice City remains one of the franchise’s most recognisable locations, and the new game promises a larger, more detailed world than ever before.
Rockstar Reveals New Cover Art
Alongside the release date announcement, Rockstar Games updated its Newswire platform with the official cover artwork for Grand Theft Auto VI.
The multi-panel design showcases the game’s vibrant setting, featuring helicopters, sports cars, flamingos and alligators, all set against the colourful backdrop of Vice City.
The artwork has already generated significant discussion among fans.
Australian streamer and speedrunner DarkViperAU praised the design, saying:
“It might be recency bias but I think GTA 6’s cover art is better than GTA 5’s.”
A Long Road to Release
The launch date follows multiple delays as Rockstar Games worked to refine and polish the title.
According to the announcement, parent company Take-Two Interactive remains confident that 19 November 2026 will be the final release date.
While Rockstar has confirmed pre-orders and release plans for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, the company has not yet announced a PC version.
Pricing Still Under Wraps
No official pricing has been revealed.
However, speculation continues around potential collector’s editions and premium versions of the game, with some rumours suggesting higher-priced editions could reach the $100 mark.
Rockstar has not commented on pricing reports.
One of Gaming’s Biggest Launches
With a return to Vice City, a new protagonist duo, expanded open-world gameplay and years of hype behind it, Grand Theft Auto VI is expected to be one of the biggest entertainment launches of 2026.
Fans will not have to wait much longer to secure their copy, with pre-orders opening on 25 June ahead of the November release.
