Ford Motor Company has confirmed that the new Ford Ranger Super Duty will arrive in South Africa in 2027, bringing what the company describes as next-level towing, carrying and off-road capability to the local bakkie market.
Developed in direct response to customer demand, the Ranger Super Duty is positioned as a tougher, more capable version of the award-winning Ranger platform designed for industries requiring serious work-ready performance.
Ford targets South Africa’s toughest bakkie jobs
According to Ford, the Ranger Super Duty was engineered for:
- emergency services
- farmers
- forestry workers
- mining operations

- and heavy-duty adventure travel
The new model aims to deliver enhanced:

while still maintaining the technology and safety features associated with the standard Ranger lineup.
Neale Hill said the new vehicle fills a gap customers struggled to find elsewhere.
“Ranger Super Duty blends the smart features and advanced safety of the award-winning Ranger with heavy-duty capability,” Hill said.
Built for work and overlanding adventures
Ford says the Ranger Super Duty will also target South Africa’s growing overlanding and adventure market.
The company describes the model as an ideal platform for:
- towing large caravans
- carrying expedition equipment

The vehicle was developed by Ford’s International Markets Group Product Development team, which included more than 1,500 engineers, designers and specialists.
Double cab and single cab options planned
Ford plans to offer the Ranger Super Duty in:
- double cab
- and single cab configurations
allowing buyers to customise the vehicle for both commercial and recreational use.
The company says the model will support various industries while also appealing to adventure enthusiasts seeking heavy-duty capability.

The Ranger Super Duty will also form part of Ford’s Ford Pro Convertor Program initiative.
The programme allows approved conversion specialists to adapt vehicles for:
- specialised work requirements
- recreation
- security applications
- and custom loadbed solutions
According to Ford, all approved convertors undergo assessment to ensure production quality meets factory standards.
“Customers can work with their preferred dealer to adapt their Super Duty to suit their specific industry or personal requirements,” Hill added.
