Elon Musk has become the world’s first trillionaire following the historic Wall Street debut of SpaceX on Friday, 12 June 2026.
Reuters reported that the record-breaking initial public offering (IPO) pushed SpaceX’s valuation above $2 trillion and lifted Musk’s personal fortune beyond the $1 trillion mark, making him the first person in history to achieve the milestone.
SpaceX delivers the biggest IPO in history
According to Reuters, SpaceX raised approximately $75 billion during its Nasdaq debut, making it the largest IPO ever recorded and surpassing the previous record held by Saudi Aramco.
Shares were priced at $135 before opening at $150 and closing their first day of trading at $160.95, representing a gain of more than 19%.
As reported by Business Insider and other financial publications, the stock surge pushed SpaceX’s market capitalisation to around $2.1 trillion, placing it among the most valuable publicly traded companies in the United States.
Musk’s fortune crosses the trillion-dollar mark
According to Reuters, the Associated Press and other financial analysts, the successful listing dramatically increased the value of Musk’s holdings in SpaceX.
Bloomberg and Forbes estimates reportedly place Musk’s net worth at between $1.1 trillion and $1.2 trillion following the IPO, making him the world’s first trillionaire.
Reports indicate that the majority of Musk’s wealth remains tied to equity holdings in SpaceX and Tesla rather than liquid cash assets.
Why investors are backing SpaceX
According to reports from The Guardian, investor confidence in SpaceX has been driven largely by the continued growth of its Starlink satellite internet business, its artificial intelligence ambitions through xAI and its long-term space exploration plans.
Despite reporting operating losses in recent years, investors continue to back the company’s future growth prospects and its plans for Starship development and future Mars missions.
A milestone in financial history
The listing marks one of the most significant moments in modern financial history.
According to the Associated Press and other international media outlets, the IPO not only delivered the largest stock market debut on record but also created the world’s first trillionaire.
While market valuations can fluctuate and wealth estimates vary between financial trackers, the SpaceX listing is being viewed as a landmark moment for both the technology and space industries.
