Ed Sheeran unveils new single ‘Sapphire’ ahead of fresh album launch

In an exciting move for fans around the globe, Ed Sheeran has confirmed the release of his latest single, “Sapphire,” slated to drop on 5th June 2025. This vibrant anthem promises to be the soundtrack of summer 2025, combining Sheeran’s irresistible pop sensibilities with rich cultural influences.

After the exuberant beats of “Azizam” and the nostalgic charm of “Old Phone,” Sheeran returns with a song that aims to encapsulate the essence of love and connectivity. “Sapphire” is described as a powerful celebration that radiates with the joyful vibrancy characteristic of Sheeran’s music.

The track stands out not only for its captivating vocals and intricate South-Asian percussion but also for the involvement of the renowned Indian artist Arijit Singh. “Sapphire was the first song I finished for ‘Play’ that made me know where the album was heading,” Sheeran said in a statement. He described the experience as “incredible,” with the music video shot across various breathtaking locations during his India tour earlier this year.

The music video, directed by Liam Pethick, opens with Sheeran performing on a rooftop at dawn. Following this, he embarks on a colourful journey through serene beaches, bustling markets, and even Bollywood backlots, capturing the essence of India’s rich culture. The video also features a special cameo from Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan and highlights Ed’s collaborations with local musicians and his engaging interactions with Arijit Singh.

Fans of Sheeran will be eager for the release of his new album, ‘Play,’ arriving on 12th September 2025. Following the completion of his Mathematics series, Sheeran is ready to embrace a new artistic phase, diving into global collaborations and exploring musical narratives that resonate on multiple levels.

“Play” promises to showcase Ed Sheeran’s artistry like never before, blending familiar sounds with innovative edges influenced by his exposure to Indian and Persian musical traditions. In addition to his musical releases, Sheeran has planned three live shows at Ipswich Town FC’s iconic Portman Road, all of which sold out immediately. Set for 11th, 12th, and 13th July, these concerts will mark his return to the UK stage while offering fans the debut performances of tracks from ‘Play.’

Sheeran has pledged that £1 from every ticket sold will be donated to the newly launched Live Trust, an initiative aimed at providing crucial financial support to the grassroots music sector. This effort underscores Sheeran’s commitment to nurturing the live music ecosystem, a cause he’s championed throughout his career.
