DStv launches Wethu+ with movies, local shows and live PSL football

DStv subscribers have a new channel to watch following the broadcaster’s biggest package overhaul in more than a decade.

Wethu+ launched on channel 163 on 17 September 2026, bringing together local dramas, reality TV, movies, music, children’s programming, international films and live football in one channel.

The channel replaces Mzansi Wethu and consolidates programming previously spread across Mzansi Wethu, Mzansi Bioskop and Mzansi Music.

One of the biggest changes is sport.

Wethu+ broadcasts two live PSL matches every weekend during the football season and is available from the entry-level DStv Starter package upwards.

What is Wethu+ on DStv?

Wethu+ is DStv’s new entertainment channel designed to combine several types of programming that were previously spread across different channels.

Viewers can expect local telenovelas and dramas, reality shows, local movies, music programming, children’s and educational content and dubbed telenovelas.

The channel also introduces international blockbuster movies alongside its local programming.

Daily news updates form part of the schedule, while Saturdays include a dedicated international movie slot.

Wethu+ brings live PSL football to Starter

Football is one of the most significant additions to the channel.

During the football season, Wethu+ will broadcast two live PSL matches every weekend.

This makes live local football available through a channel included in DStv Starter, the package that replaced Access.

Starter is available from R99 per month on DStv Stream or R150 per month via satellite and includes more than 85 channels.

Wethu+ is available across DStv packages from Starter through to Premium.

What shows are on Wethu+?

The channel’s schedule combines entertainment, education, news, sport and movies throughout the week.

Music programming airs daily from 7am, followed by educational and children’s content at 8am from Mondays to Saturdays.

Woza Matrics airs from Mondays to Thursdays at 5pm, while Umhlaba We Zifiso airs weekdays at 5.30pm.

Daily news follows at 6pm, with Homecoming at 6.30pm, My Brother’s Keeper at 7.30pm and The River at 8pm on weekdays.

Live PSL matches are scheduled for weekends, while international movies have a Saturday 8pm slot.

Programming schedules are subject to change.

DStv Starter gets more channels

Wethu+ forms part of a much broader overhaul of DStv’s South African packages.

The refreshed line-up includes Starter, Select, Sports, Movies & Series and Premium.

Starter gains 10 channels compared with the previous Access package.

Alongside Wethu+, the package includes SuperSport KICKOFF, kykNET & Kie, Moja Love, VIA, Star Life, Discovery Family, Curiosity, SportyTV and WWE.

SuperSport KICKOFF offers selected live matches from competitions including the PSL, Premier League, LaLiga, Serie A and Ligue 1.

More football across the new DStv packages

DStv’s package changes also expand football coverage beyond Wethu+.

Select includes the SuperSport PSL channel and access to every PSL match, while the Sports package includes 17 sports channels and coverage of every PSL, Premier League and UEFA Champions League match.

The new Sports package also expands access to cricket, local rugby, UFC and WWE.

Premium remains DStv’s most comprehensive package, including sport that remains exclusive to the tier.

Wethu+ replaces three DStv channels

The introduction of Wethu+ is also part of DStv’s effort to consolidate programming.

Mzansi Wethu, Mzansi Bioskop and Mzansi Music have been brought together under Wethu+, rather than keeping the content across three separate channels.

For Starter subscribers in particular, that means one channel now provides a mix of local entertainment, movies, music and selected live PSL football.

Wethu+ is available on DStv channel 163.
