As Comic Con Cape Town returns, the city prepares for a standout celebration of creativity, fandom and craftsmanship. Cosplayers across Cape Town are getting ready to reveal their latest creations, turning the event into a showcase of skill, imagination and performance.
For newcomers, cosplay blends costume design with performance. Participants recreate characters from anime, video games, films and books, then step into those roles through movement, expression and attitude. The result is more than a costume. It is a full character transformation brought to life.
International stars of cosplay
This year’s event features leading names in the global cosplay community. Yaya Han, who has been active since 1999, brings decades of experience and more than 400 handcrafted costumes. She continues to support the cosplay community by improving access to materials and using her platform for charitable work.
Joining her is Jaremi Carey, known for his work across major entertainment brands and global conventions. He brings a mix of performance, judging expertise and industry insight.
Both guests will appear on the main stage, where you can attend Q and A sessions, hear about their careers and meet them in person.
Daily casual cosplay competitions
Throughout the event, casual cosplay competitions take place twice a day on the main stage. These sessions are open to all skill levels. You can enter whether your outfit is handmade or store-bought.
The focus stays on energy, creativity and participation. You get the chance to step onto the same stage as international guests and compete for prizes. Registration takes place on the day at Cosplay Central.

The main cosplay competition
The official Comic Con Cape Town Cosplay Competition highlights the highest level of craftsmanship. Only fully handmade costumes qualify.
Contestants go through a detailed judging process that looks at sewing, construction and the creation of complex elements like armour and props. In 2026, 39 competitors will take part, with the finals set for 16:00 on the main stage.
A culture built on creativity
Beyond competitions, cosplay shapes the entire Comic Con experience. Many fans attend simply to wear their creations, connect with others and celebrate shared interests.
You walk through the venue and see characters that look as if they stepped straight out of a film or game. The atmosphere encourages creativity, recognition and community.
Whether you plan to compete, showcase your work or take it all in, Comic Con Cape Town offers a space where creativity takes centre stage.
