Cape Town weather takes a turn as rain and cooler temperatures move in

Cape Town’s hot weather is about to give way to a cooler, wetter end to the week, with rain and wind expected ahead of the weekend.

After the heat on Tuesday, 22 September, temperatures are expected to drop on Wednesday before briefly climbing again for Heritage Day on Thursday.

The bigger change arrives on Friday and Saturday, when temperatures fall and steady rain and windy conditions move into the city.

Cooler weather and showers expected on Wednesday

Wednesday, 23 September will bring the first noticeable change, with a maximum temperature of 20°C and a minimum of 15°C.

Morning showers are expected, with a 36% chance of rain, before conditions clear during the afternoon.

The cooler conditions will provide a significant change from Tuesday’s heat.

Heritage Day brings a brief warm-up

Cape Town residents planning Heritage Day activities on Thursday, 24 September could get a welcome break in the unsettled weather.

Temperatures are expected to reach 23°C, with a minimum of 16°C and only a 7% chance of rain.

Conditions are forecast to be sunny and pleasant, making Thursday the warmest and driest day before the next change arrives.

Rain and wind arrive on Friday

The weather takes another turn on Friday, 25 September.

Temperatures are expected to reach a maximum of 20°C and fall to 14°C, with a 57% chance of rain.

Scattered showers and windy conditions are expected as the cooler weather settles over Cape Town.

Saturday brings the coldest conditions

Saturday, 26 September is forecast to be the coldest day of the period, with temperatures ranging between 14°C and 18°C.

Morning showers and cold winds are expected, with the chance of rain remaining at 57%.

Anyone with outdoor weekend plans should prepare for considerably cooler and wetter conditions than those experienced earlier in the week.

What to expect on Sunday

Conditions are expected to begin improving on Sunday, 27 September, although temperatures will remain cool.

The maximum is forecast at 19°C, with a minimum of 14°C and a 24% chance of rain.

While the rain is expected to ease, strong and chilly southerly winds are forecast to remain.
