Cape Town singer Anslin Gysman is the voice behind the Springboks’ new anthem as the team prepares for another season.
The multi-talented performer from Kuils River, a singer, radio host and content creator, has built a strong following on social media. His voice now carries him onto a national stage.
The 30-year-old entertainer continues to grow his audience while balancing music, broadcasting and a demanding academic path.

Early roots in music
Gysman said his journey with music began as a young boy singing in church. The experience quickly became a source of comfort and expression.
“Music is like a best friend. It can comfort you during the toughest times, lift a room and sometimes even save someone from a dark place,” he said.
The church environment helped shape his voice and confidence as a performer. It also sparked a lifelong relationship with music and storytelling through song.
An academic at heart
Despite his talent, singing was never his main ambition.
“Singing has always been a passion, but my dream is to become a professor of commerce one day. Above all my skills and abilities, I am an academic at heart,” he said.
Gysman holds an undergraduate degree in linguistics and several postgraduate qualifications in human resources, advanced taxation, strategic finance and informatics.
He is currently completing another master’s degree while working as a human resource professional at the University of the Western Cape (UWC). His academic ambitions continue to shape his long-term goals alongside his growing music career.
Landing the Springboks anthem
His major breakthrough arrived when SA Rugby invited him to audition for the Springboks’ theme song.
“They shared the AI version with me and I fell in love with it immediately. I went into the booth and immersed myself in the song. This was one of the easiest records for me, we spent about six hours in office, there wasn’t much of a back and forth. I have done a lot of work in studio before but this was just so organic. A few days later, I got the call to say I got the job,” he said.
The opportunity placed the Cape Town performer at the centre of a national rugby moment as the Springboks prepare for the upcoming season.
A full-circle moment
Gysman performed the anthem at SA Rugby’s annual awards ceremony at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.
He described the experience as deeply meaningful.
“This achievement was such a full circle moment for every brown child who looks like me, who dreams like me and has the audacity to think that they are greater than where they come from,” he said.
The performance marked a major milestone for the Kuils River artist and highlighted the role of young South African voices in national sport and culture.

What comes next
Gysman plans to release new music and continue growing his radio show. He also plans to begin a PhD while maintaining his work in human resources.
He encourages aspiring artists to remain patient and persistent while building their careers.
His journey reflects the power of balancing creativity, education and ambition while staying connected to community and culture.
