Airlink has officially launched a new air service between Johannesburg and Nacala, strengthening regional connectivity between South Africa and northern Mozambique and opening new opportunities for trade, tourism and investment.
Strengthening Regional Connectivity
Nacala is Mozambique’s third-largest harbour town and a critical logistics and economic hub. It also serves as the main gateway to the Nacala Corridor, providing Malawi and Zambia with access to markets in Asia, the Middle East, and Africa’s eastern seaboard.
With the launch of this route, Airlink adds its seventh destination in Mozambique, reinforcing its long-standing commitment to the region.
Flight Schedule and Aircraft
The new route operates as a twice-weekly return service on Mondays and Fridays between Johannesburg and Nacala.
Flights are operated using Airlink’s Embraer regional jet aircraft, offering passengers a full-service experience designed for comfort, efficiency and reliability.
Unlocking Trade and Economic Growth
According to Airlink CEO de Villiers Engelbrecht, the new route adds a vital air connectivity layer to an already important logistics network.
By linking Nacala to Airlink’s wider domestic, regional and international partner network, the route positions the harbour town as a truly multi-modal transport and logistics node for the region.
The Governor of Nampula Province, Eduardo Mariamo Abdula, welcomed the new service, noting that improved air access will stimulate trade, tourism and investment while supporting socio-economic development across northern Mozambique.
A Long-Term Commitment to Mozambique
Airlink has operated in Mozambique for more than 30 years and currently runs over 60 return flights per week to Maputo, Beira, Pemba, Nampula, Tete, Vilanculos and now Nacala.
The airline confirmed that while the route launches with two weekly flights, capacity and frequency will increase as demand grows. Services are timed to connect smoothly with Airlink’s broader route network and long-haul flights operated by global airline partners.
