iCAUR V27 promises 150km electric range and more than 1 000km combined

An electric-only range of up to 150km and more than 1 000km of combined driving range are at the heart of iCAUR’s new V27 SUV, which uses a petrol engine to generate electricity when its battery needs additional power.

With fuel prices and energy costs continuing to influence motoring decisions, the V27 is being positioned as a flexible alternative for motorists who want electric driving without relying solely on charging infrastructure for longer journeys.

The SUV is built around iCAUR‘s Golden REEV, or Range-Extended Electric Vehicle, architecture.

Unlike a conventional petrol-powered vehicle, its 1.5-litre turbocharged engine does not directly drive the wheels. Instead, it acts as a generator, producing electricity for the vehicle’s electric motors when required.

How does the iCAUR V27 range extender work?

The V27’s 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine has a claimed thermal efficiency of 45.79%.

iCAUR says the system can convert each litre of fuel into 3.71kWh of electricity.

This allows the vehicle to retain an electric-first driving experience while using petrol to extend its range when necessary.

For drivers covering longer distances, it also means the vehicle can be refuelled rather than depending solely on finding a charging station.

Up to 150km of electric-only driving

A 34.3kWh lithium iron phosphate battery supplied by CATL gives the V27 a claimed electric-only range of up to 150km.

When the range-extending petrol system is included, iCAUR claims the SUV can travel more than 1 000km.

The combination is designed to provide electric driving for shorter distances while retaining the flexibility to undertake longer journeys.

Intelligent all-wheel drive aims to cut energy use

The V27 also uses an intelligent all-wheel-drive system.

Under normal driving conditions, the SUV primarily operates in rear-wheel drive. The front electric motor is activated when additional traction is required.

According to iCAUR, this approach can reduce energy consumption by around 5% compared with conventional all-wheel-drive systems.

V27 can provide external power

Beyond driving, the V27 features vehicle-to-load technology, commonly known as V2L.

The system can supply up to 6kW of external power, allowing the vehicle to power equipment away from conventional electricity supplies.

This could be useful during camping trips, outdoor activities or other situations where access to electricity is limited.

V27 being developed with South African drivers in mind

Shannon Gahagan, Head of Brand and Marketing for iCAUR South Africa and OMODA & JAECOO South Africa, says the V27 is being developed with local driving conditions and consumer needs in mind.

The V27 forms part of iCAUR’s expanding new-energy vehicle strategy.

The brand is set to showcase its latest technology and product plans at the 2026 Beijing International Automotive Exhibition.
