Heritage doesn’t stop at museums and historical buildings.
Cape Town’s natural environment is also part of its heritage, and the City of Cape Town has waived entry fees to several of its paid nature reserves from Thursday, 24 September to Sunday, 27 September 2026.
Blaauwberg Nature Reserve offers coastal trails and views across Table Bay towards Table Mountain.
Tygerberg Nature Reserve is an option for hiking, picnics, birdwatching and seeing Cape spring flowers.
In Somerset West, Helderberg Nature Reserve provides mountain and fynbos trails, while Table Bay Nature Reserve gives visitors an opportunity to explore wetland habitats and coastal birdlife.
With free access extending through Sunday at participating reserves, families don’t have to squeeze everything into Heritage Day itself.
Plan before you leave
Free-entry promotions might have specific conditions, operating hours or capacity limits.
Check directly with the attraction before leaving home and take a valid South African ID where local promotional entry requires proof of identification.
