New DStv packages and prices: What changes from 17 September

DStv is introducing a new package structure in South Africa from 17 September 2026, bringing new package names, revised channel line-ups, dedicated Sports and Movies & Series options and changes to where subscribers will find some of their favourite channels.

Existing Access, Family and Compact customers will automatically move to new packages, while Premium, Compact Plus and EasyView subscribers will remain on their current packages.

The new core line-up consists of Starter, Select, Sports, Movies & Series, Premium and EasyView.

Prices start at R99 per month for DStv Stream’s Starter package, while satellite customers will pay from R150 per month for Starter.

Here’s what South African DStv customers need to know.

What are the new DStv packages?

DStv’s six core packages will be:

• EasyView: 35+ channels, R30 per month
• Starter: 85+ channels, from R99 per month
• Select: 100+ channels, from R299 per month
• Sports: 115+ channels, from R399 per month
• Movies & Series: 115+ channels, R500 per month
• Premium: 130+ channels, from R799 per month

The Sports and Movies & Series packages are new additions.

Both include the content available through Select and Starter before adding their respective sports or entertainment channels.

What happens to existing DStv customers?

Customers do not need to request the migration. DStv will begin automatically moving subscribers to the new packages from 17 September.

The migration will take place in phases, meaning some accounts might continue displaying an old package name even though the new channels have already become available.

Access subscribers will move to Starter, Family subscribers will move to Select and Compact subscribers will move to Sports.

Premium, Compact Plus and EasyView subscribers will stay on their existing packages.

Compact Plus will remain available to existing subscribers, but DStv will no longer accept new subscriptions to the package.

Movies & Series is an entirely new package.

DStv says customers will not pay more when they are automatically migrated to their new package.

How much will the new DStv packages cost?

Prices differ between satellite and DStv Stream for several of the packages.

EasyView remains R30 per month.

DStv Premium customers can pay R799 on contract

Standard DStv Premium satellite pricing remains R979 per month, but subscribers willing to commit to a 24-month contract have another option.

The 24-month Premium contract costs R799 per month, including the Access Fee.

That brings the monthly satellite Premium price down to the same R799 charged for DStv Stream Premium.

What’s included in DStv Starter?

Starter includes more than 85 channels and costs R150 per month on satellite or R99 through DStv Stream.

The package has 10 more channels than Access.

New additions include Wethu+, SuperSport KICKOFF, Moja Love, kykNET & kie, VIA, Star Life, Discovery Family, Curiosity, Sporty TV and WWE.

Starter also includes SuperSport La Liga, Cartoon Network, Playroom, Disney Junior, NatGeo Wild, M-Net Legends, TLC, Zee Zonke, Star Khanya and Novelas+.

Wethu+ includes selected PSL football alongside international movies and local content.

Starter subscribers will also get two PSL Matches of the Week and two Premier League Matches of the Week streaming on Wethu+.

What’s included in DStv Select?

Select has more than 100 channels and costs R339 per month on satellite or R299 through DStv Stream.

It includes everything available on Starter, alongside Mzansi Magic, SuperSport PSL, SuperSport Serie A, CNN, ID and the History Channel.

Entertainment includes Moja Love, M-Net Legends, Universal TV, Comedy Central, National Geographic, MTV, BBC Lifestyle and HGTV.

Select has 10 more channels than the Family package.

What sport is included in the new Sports package?

The new Sports package includes more than 115 channels, including 17 dedicated sports channels.

It costs R479 per month on satellite and R399 on DStv Stream.

Subscribers get everything available through Select, plus every Premier League, UEFA Champions League and PSL match.

The package also includes SuperSport Cricket, bringing coverage of the SA20, IPL, Proteas and Tests.

Local and club rugby is included, with the Currie Cup, SA Cup and one URC fixture each week.

Combat sports and cycling, including the Tour de France and Cape Epic, are also included.

Entertainment channels include M-Net Stars, BBC Brit, Mzansi Magic, Moja Love, Universal TV, TLC, Zee Zonke, Star Khanya and National Geographic, alongside the kids’ channels.

Sports has four more channels than the Compact package.

What doesn’t the DStv Sports package include?

Some of DStv’s biggest sporting events remain exclusive to Premium.

Springbok rugby and international rugby will not be included in Sports.

Formula 1, golf, tennis and other premium motorsport coverage also remain exclusive to Premium for now.

What’s included in Movies & Series?

Movies & Series costs R500 per month on both satellite and DStv Stream and includes more than 115 channels.

The package includes everything available on Select, with additional international, local and Afrikaans series, movies and documentaries.

Channels include M-Net, M-Net Movies+, kykNET, Discovery Channel, BBC Earth, Mzansi Magic and Wethu+.

Subscribers also receive 10 sports channels, including SuperSport PSL, La Liga, Serie A, Sporty TV, Blitz and ESPN.

What’s included in DStv Premium?

Premium remains DStv’s most comprehensive package, with more than 130 channels.

Satellite Premium costs R979 per month, while DStv Stream Premium costs R799 per month.

A 24-month satellite contract is also available at R799 per month, including the Access Fee.

Premium includes the content available across the other packages, along with exclusive sports including Springbok and international rugby, Formula 1, MotoGP, tennis and golf majors.

Rugby coverage includes the URC, Investec Champions Cup and Nations Championship.

Subscribers also receive the wider football, cricket, cycling, combat sports and athletics offering.

Which DStv channels are changing?

The new packages also bring a shake-up of DStv’s channel line-up.

Mzansi Wethu, Bioskop Movies and Mzansi Music are being consolidated into Wethu+.

Wethu+ will be available from Starter upwards and combines local content with international movies and selected live football.

kykNET Lekker is being replaced by kykNET & kie, which will be available across packages down to Starter.

DStv’s movie channels are also changing.

M-Net Movies 1 and 2 become M-Net Movies+ on Channel 106, available on Premium and Movies & Series.

M-Net Movies 3 becomes M-Net Stars on Channel 107, available on Premium, Movies & Series and Sports.

M-Net Movies 4 becomes M-Net Legends on Channel 108, which will be available across packages down to Starter.

SuperSport channels are changing too

Several SuperSport channels are being renamed or repositioned.

SuperSport Football Plus, Channel 206, becomes the destination for premium football, including UEFA Champions League matches. It was previously SuperSport Variety 1.

SuperSport KICKOFF, Channel 207, carries selected PSL and Premier League matches alongside selected LaLiga, Serie A and Ligue 1 fixtures. It replaces SuperSport Variety 2.

SuperSport Africa, Channel 208, focuses on South African and African sport, including the Diski Challenge, CAF Champions League and Confed Cup, local netball and basketball. It was previously SuperSport Variety 3.

SuperSport Action, Channel 209, focuses on UFC, PFL and other combat sports. It replaces SuperSport Variety 4.

SuperSport Extra, Channel 210, includes cycling and sports such as hockey, swimming and padel. It was previously SuperSport Action.

SuperSport Extra 2, Channel 217, is a new channel providing additional sports coverage when major events overlap.

SuperSport Cricket will also no longer be exclusive to Premium, with Sports subscribers gaining access.

SuperSport PSL moves down to Select.

What happens to DStv add-ons?

Existing add-ons will continue to be available where applicable.

These include Add Indian, Add Movies, Netflix, Mobile Stream, XtraView and insurance products.

Disney+ will no longer be available on the Streama and Explora boxes.

Do DStv customers need to do anything?

No action is required for customers being automatically migrated.

The process starts on 17 September 2026 and will take place in phases.

Customers who want a different package from the one assigned to them will still have the option to change their subscription.

Subscribers also do not need a new decoder or need to manually update the DStv Stream app.
