Tropika Island Search Heads to Turkey as Antalya Emerges as Top Contender

Tropika Island Search continues its global journey this week as host Zanele Potelwa and content creator Chad Jones explore the coastal city of Antalya.

The show, an extension of Tropika Island of Treasure, follows former contestants as they search for the ultimate destination for the upcoming Season 12.

Antalya Delivers an Unexpected Island Feel

While Turkey is not a traditional island destination, Antalya proved to be a strong contender. Chad described the city as unexpectedly picturesque, with landscapes that resemble painted backdrops and a deep sense of cultural pride.

He noted that the beaches are clean, the water is clear and the temperature is ideal. Hidden caves and nearby islands add to the sense of discovery, giving Antalya a unique island-like appeal.

A Blend of Beach and History

Antalya’s mix of natural beauty and history shaped the experience. Chad highlighted a small island with a freshwater spring at its centre, surrounded by saltwater. Historically, travellers used this as a drinking source, and the experience stood out as one of the most memorable moments of the trip.

A Perfect 24-Hour Itinerary

For visitors with limited time, Chad recommends starting with local cuisine, especially traditional doner kebabs. A walk through the Old Town and its ruins follows, ending the day with a sunset cruise that includes ocean swims and freshly prepared seafood.

Food played a major role in the experience, with Turkish cuisine ranking among his top five globally after the trip.

Why Antalya Works for the Show

Chad believes Antalya offers everything needed for the next season of the show. Its beaches create the perfect setting for water challenges, while its historical sites provide a unique backdrop for puzzle-based tasks.

The combination of scenery and storytelling potential makes it a strong candidate for Season 12.

Auditions for Season 12 Now Open

As the search for the next destination continues, auditions for Tropika Island of Treasure Season 12 are now open.

Entries are open until 5 May 2026. Participants must submit audition videos on social media using the hashtag #Tropika. Finalists stand a chance to compete for a share of R1 million, along with a R10,000 shopping voucher from Pep.

When to Watch

Viewers can follow the journey on S3 every Monday at 18:00, with repeats on SABC 1 on Fridays at 16:00.
