Springboks Name Settled Side for All Blacks Showdown at Eden Park

Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus has named a largely unchanged team for Saturday’s Castle Lager Rugby Championship clash against New Zealand at Eden Park, Auckland.

Only four changes have been made to the starting XV that defeated the Wallabies in Cape Town, with Jesse Kriel once again leading the side.

Etzebeth Returns, Kolisi Shifts to No 8

South Africa’s most-capped player, Eben Etzebeth, makes his return to the second row for his 136th Test, lining up alongside Ruan Nortje. Pieter-Steph du Toit reclaims his spot on the flank, while Siya Kolisi will run out at No 8 for just the second time in his illustrious career.

In the backline, veteran Willie le Roux returns at fullback for his 101st cap after missing the Wallabies clash through injury.

Bench Impact and New Faces

On the bench, Jan-Hendrik Wessels replaces Marnus van der Merwe at hooker, Kwagga Smith shifts back into his familiar impact role, and Ethan Hooker earns selection for just his second Test.

“We selected the best possible team we could for this match, knowing it’s going to be an epic encounter,” said Erasmus. “Eden Park is a fortress, but we’ve worked hard since arriving in Auckland. Now it’s up to us to deliver a performance we can be proud of.”

Records, Rivalry and Respect

The stakes are high. The Springboks are hunting a fifth straight win over the All Blacks and their first victory at Eden Park since 1937. On top of that, the Freedom Cup is on the line.

“The history and rivalry speak for themselves,” Erasmus added. “Records are on the line, and this game could be key in deciding the competition.”

He also paid tribute to All Blacks centurion Ardie Savea, who will mark his 100th Test. “He’s been a true servant to New Zealand rugby, and it doesn’t get more special than celebrating that milestone at Eden Park in a match like this,” Erasmus said.
