Prime Circle Finds Healing and Hope with New Single “Calling on Angels”

South Africa’s favourite rock veterans are back with something deeply personal — and this time, it’s not just about the music.

Prime Circle’s brand-new single, Calling on Angels, arrives this September with a powerful message of survival, resilience, and second chances.

A Song for Second Chances

If you’ve ever felt like life knocked you down one too many times, this track is for you. Written with the raw honesty that frontman Gavin Edwards has become known for, Calling on Angels is less about polished perfection and more about the messy, beautiful act of standing up again.

“I’ve learned that failure isn’t the end,” Gavin admits. “It’s actually the roadmap to who you’re meant to become. This song is for anyone who’s ever felt broken but kept fighting.”

Sobriety, Survival, and Angel Wings

For Edwards, who celebrated ten years of sobriety this August, the single carries extra weight. His bandmate, drummer Dale Schnettler, recently marked one year sober — a milestone that once felt impossible. To honour their journeys, both men tattooed angel wings on their skin: a reminder that the fight for a brighter tomorrow is never over.

“The turning point was honesty,” says Gavin. “When I finally stood up and said, ‘I am an alcoholic, I need help,’ everything became lighter because I wasn’t carrying it alone anymore.”

Why Recovery Month Matters

The timing of the release couldn’t be more poignant. September is Recovery Month, a global campaign dedicated to raising awareness around addiction and mental health.

And the need is urgent: in 2024 alone, over 10,000 South Africans sought addiction treatment — many of them teenagers. Children as young as eight are now appearing in treatment centres, according to SANCA.

For Prime Circle, lending their voices to this conversation is about more than stats — it’s about breaking stigma. Their music video, filmed against sweeping landscapes, mirrors the journey from struggle to renewal, offering fans a visual story of redemption.

Rock Legacy, Renewed Purpose

With nearly 25 years in the business (their anniversary lands on 16 December 2025), Prime Circle have never been afraid to evolve. Calling on Angels proves that their signature energy still hits hard, but it also reveals a new layer: one of reflection, honesty, and hope.

The single sits as track six on their album The World We Know, and the official music video premieres on 12 September 2025 on YouTube.

Where to Listen

Calling on Angels is available now on all major streaming platforms. Whether you’ve been a die-hard fan since the early 2000s or you’re discovering them for the first time, this track is an invitation: to keep fighting, to keep hoping, and maybe even to call on your own angels.
