Hold onto your hard hats – Landman, the latest gritty gem from Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan, is about to make Monday nights a whole lot more explosive. Premiering on M-Net (DStv Channel 101) on 2 June at 9pm, this 10-episode series dives deep into the messy, moneyed world of West Texas oil – with a cast as star-studded as an A-list afterparty.
Leading the charge? Billy-Bob Thornton as Tommy Norris, a seasoned overseer trying to keep his drilling crews in line, out of trouble, and one step ahead of the cartel. He’s the guy doing the dirty work while reporting to big boss Monty, played by none other than Jon Hamm (yes, that Jon Hamm – Mad Men fans, rejoice). Add Demi Moore and Ali Larter into the high-stakes mix and you’ve got a drama that’s part oil rush, part soap opera, and entirely unmissable.
Sheridan co-wrote the series with Christian Wallace, who also hosted the podcast Boomtown, which inspired the show. And while it’s packed with western swagger and punchy dialogue, Landman also explores real-world themes like climate change, cutthroat capitalism, and complicated family ties – all with a wink and some wicked dark humour.

Critics are already striking oil with this one. Variety’s Alison Herman praised Thornton’s performance, noting how he grounds the series as it navigates the tangled world of fossil fuels and future fears. Rolling Stone’s Alan Sepinwall called it “Dallas with cursing, more violence, and nudity” – so, basically, your new favourite guilty pleasure. And NPR’s Eric Deggans applauded its celebration of “a working man’s culture” with nuance, grit and just the right amount of glam.
In true Sheridan style, Landman offers a peek into a world Hollywood rarely shines a light on – then sets it on fire (figuratively, of course or maybe not, we are talking oil fields).
So, cancel your Monday night plans, pour a drink, and get ready for drama, danger and a whole lot of drilling. Landman premieres 2 June at 9pm on M-Net (DStv Channel 101) – and trust us, you’ll want to be there for every boom, bust and betrayal.
