Primer Time – Prep Time

Prep that skin and sort your beauty pre-game pretty quick. When it comes to our skin, we already know that we ought to take care of it as much as we take care of our bodies, and well many other things that we love. Its winter season, and you know skin normally gets drier and kinkier, before you put on that foundation, give your skin some love with a good primer. Primers are quite needful, a good primer can make or break your skin.

Each primer has a set of its benefits, and as you know, with everything comes the good and the bad. There are different types of primers: shellac, hydrating, latex, illuminating, mattifying, hydro grip, silicone, blurring and colour correcting. But generally, a primer is supposed to improve the tone and the texture of your skin. It hydrates and refines skin, whilst also adding that luminous glow. Choose a good primer for your skin and apply it skilfully. My favourite that really gives a deep touch to hydration is the hydrating primer, more especially for winter.

Hydrating primers are quite perfect and ideal for this season, they lock in and maintain skin moisture whilst ensuring a smooth makeup application. Look for primers enriched with ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerin, and vitamin E- they are good ingredients, and so it’s advisable that you look for primers with these ingredients.  Let’s remember that primers also help prevent makeup from separating due to dryness. Consider primers with a cream or gel texture for added hydration. Got that? Added hydration. You want a clever swap for a primer, then just run for the moisturiser. Ultimately, it’s one of the best ways to repair a busted barrier function situation because you’re not just adding hydration, you are moisturising.

According to Lamelle, when it comes to primers, If you’re using something that contains a high concentration of foaming agents such as sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) it can be too “strippy” and only serve to dry you out further. Instead, switch to a no or very low SLS formula. “Good examples of the latter would be our Serra Cleansing Gel, Nourish Daily Cleanse, or Dermaheal Foaming Cleanser.

Better yet, they’re all enriched with powerful antioxidants and anti-inflammatory ingredients.” Quoted Lamelle.
