How to revive your skin

By Temo Mpodi

When it comes to rejuvenating your skin, it never hurts to try something that seems beneficial. Healthline.com threw in a few ideas on ways to rejuvenate dull skin, I tried five of the nine they shared for the month of November, and I can gladly say, they work.

1. Go gentle on your skin

The moment I pinned my eyes on this, I immediately thought, hands of deep scrubs. This was my first test to reviving my skin and it worked. According to healthline.com, you should avoid harsh scrubs and drying soaps which can cause skin irritation. Instead, use a cleansing oil first to remove your makeup and sunscreen without stripping and damaging the top layer of your skin. Then do a second wash with a gentle cleanser to remove the oil.

2. Avoid hot water

I made sure I went on cold and mere luke-warm water for my face, dipping my face on ice some days. That helped tighten my face, and it got firmer. “Hot water can strip natural oils, which can cause dryness and irritation,” says Shainhouse. It can also cause superficial vessel dilation, which, Shainhouse says, can make the skin appear red, but only temporarily.

3. Make exfoliation part of your routine

I should’ve known exfoliation was a beauty mandate. I saw the difference when I made exfoliation part of my regime. Healthline.com outlined that when dead skin cells build up on the outer layers of your skin, it can cause your skin to look dull, dry, and flakey, and can even clog your pores. Regular exfoliation can prevent this from happening. Exfoliation smoothens, polishes and exposes a fresh layer of skin.

4. Maximize your moisturizer

According to a 2017 review, moisturizing twice a day with the right product can help maintain your skin health and treat various kinds of dermatitis. With my face having been a bit dry, this helped discard dryness and skin irritation, it gave me that glow I needed

5. Wear sunscreen daily

Whether the sun is out or not, sunscreen should be a girl’s best friend. Healhtline.com indicates that we must wear sunscreen daily. “This will help prevent UV-induced damage, including skin dyspigmentation, aging brown spots, and rough, dulling texture,” says Shainhouse. Sunscreen Queens!
