Jozi’s Roedean School (SA) is rolling out the red carpet and turning back the clock to the roaring 1920s with its fabulous upcoming production of Chicago: Teen Edition! The show runs from 22 to 24 May 2025 at 7pm in the school’s Founders Hall.
Prepare to be dazzled as flapper fashion, razzle-dazzle dance routines and toe-tapping tunes take centre stage in this student-powered take on the iconic Broadway hit.

Set in Prohibition-era Chicago, the story follows two rival vaudevillian performers – Roxie Hart and Velma Kelly – who find themselves behind bars. With the help of smooth-talking lawyer Billy Flynn, they embark on a media-fuelled quest for fame, fortune and acquittal. Satirical, sassy and full of unforgettable musical numbers like “Cell Block Tango” and “All That Jazz”, Chicago is a sharp-witted exploration of celebrity culture and scandal and the Roedean students are ready to bring it to life.
“Our students have embraced every aspect of this challenging production, from the choreography to the complex musical arrangements,” says Shaye Garmany, head of Dramatic Arts at Roedean School.
With its glittering costumes, bold performances and high-energy ensemble numbers, Chicago: Teen Edition offers more than just a spectacle. It’s also a showcase of Roedean’s thriving arts culture and commitment to holistic, values-driven education.
“Chicago perfectly complements our values-driven approach to education,” says Roedean executive director Lindi Dlamini. “Through the arts, our students develop the confidence to become intelligent leaders who will thrive in our changing world.”
