The iconic South African travel series Voetspore returns with a brand-new season as the team completes its South American trilogy.
Led by explorer and storyteller Johan Badenhorst, the latest instalment, Voetspore: Suid-Amerika 3, takes viewers on another extraordinary journey through some of the continent’s most fascinating landscapes and cultures.
The 13-episode season begins on 11 March at 20:00 on kykNET (DStv channel 144) and will also be available on Catch Up and DStv Stream.
A journey across five remarkable countries
The Voetspore team sets out to explore five diverse countries on their final South American expedition.
The adventure begins in Venezuela, a nation known for both its challenges and its breathtaking natural beauty. One of the highlights of the trip is the Mérida Teleférico, recognised as the highest and second-longest cable car system in the world.
From there, the journey moves to Guyana, a country experiencing rapid economic growth following major oil discoveries. Here, the team discovers a destination that feels culturally closer to the Caribbean than South America.
Next comes Suriname, a former Dutch colony where Dutch remains the shared language among communities with African, Hindu, indigenous, Jewish, Christian and Muslim heritage.
Following the mighty Amazon
The expedition then enters Brazil, the largest country in South America and one of the most diverse. The team begins in the Amazon basin and follows the legendary Amazon River all the way to the Atlantic Ocean.
From Belém, located on the southern bank of the river’s mouth, the crew continues south along Brazil’s spectacular coastline, visiting cities including Natal and Salvador. The adventure also includes a visit to the iconic Rio de Janeiro before travelling further south to Florianópolis and Porto Alegre.
Completing the South American trilogy
The journey concludes in Uruguay, where the team first began exploring South America three years earlier.
According to Badenhorst, the trilogy has been a remarkable undertaking.
“These three seasons on South America were an epic adventure and a journey of more than 45 000 kilometres,” he said. “This final leg alone covered more than 16 600 kilometres, filled with its own challenges and memorable moments.”
Over thirteen episodes, viewers will witness not only spectacular scenery but also the camaraderie of a team navigating the continent together through every challenge and triumph.
With its blend of adventure, culture and exploration, Voetspore: Suid-Amerika 3 promises to keep audiences glued to their screens as the team completes one of its most ambitious journeys yet.
