Cobus Reinach makes exciting return to South Africa with DHL Stormers

The DHL Stormers are set to elevate their prospects as they welcome double World Cup-winning scrumhalf Cobus Reinach into their ranks for the 2025/26 season.

Cobus Reinach, known for his explosive pace and astute game management, will be returning home following a successful seven-year stint in European rugby, having played in both England and France.

With 39 Springbok caps under his belt, Reinach’s experience is expected to seamlessly integrate with the Stormers’ renowned style of play.

Director of Rugby John Dobson expressed his enthusiasm for Reinach’s arrival, highlighting the immense value he brings, not only in skills but also in mentoring young talents like Imad Khan and Asad Moos.

“Cobus has proven himself a threat at the highest level of the game and we are expecting him to fit in seamlessly here.

“He is a double World Cup winner and his considerable experience will be vital as we develop the next generation of young talent, with the likes of Imad Khan and Asad Moos set to benefit greatly from working closely with him,” Dobson explained.

Dobson went on to commend Reinach’s rugby intelligence, indicating that his familiarity with European rugby dynamics will be beneficial for the team.

“His attacking abilities are well-known, but he is also a player with great rugby IQ, and given his knowledge of European conditions and opposition, he will provide plenty of value on and off the pitch,” he said.

Reinach himself is equally excited to don the Stormers jersey again. He acknowledged the significance of returning home for his family while expressing eagerness to contribute to a team that embodies an exciting brand of rugby.

“It will obviously be great for my family and me to return home, but what is just as exciting for me is to join a team playing such a great brand of rugby.

“I know a lot of the DHL Stormers players well and I feel that I have a lot to offer within their game model, so I am looking forward to connecting with my new teammates and coaches when I move down to Cape Town at the end of the season,” he said.

The addition of Reinach is seen as a pivotal moment for the Stormers, reinforcing their ambition as they prepare for future competition.

Stormers Rugby CEO Johan le Roux emphasized that bringing in a premier talent like Reinach underscores the progressive direction in which the franchise is heading.

“Cobus is a premier talent and we are thrilled to have someone of his quality coming in to bolster our squad.

“While the primary focus will always be on developing local talent, it is also important that our coaching staff are on the lookout for strategic acquisitions at the top end of the game that will help take us forward,” he said.

As the DHL Stormers gear up for what promises to be an exhilarating season ahead, fans eagerly await the return of one of South Africa’s finest, who brings not just experience but a championship pedigree that could inspire a new generation of players in the Stormers’ camp.
