South Africa’s top-ranked beaches

Boulders Beach in Cape Town ranks as the most popular beach in the world.

  • Over 27,700 Google reviews
  • Around 110,000 monthly searches

In second place, Cape of Good Hope Beach continues the country’s strong showing.

  • 12,941 Google reviews
  • Approximately 135,000 monthly searches

The data points to high visitor engagement and sustained international interest.

How the rankings were measured

The report analysed several metrics to determine popularity:

  • total number of Google reviews
  • average review ratings
  • monthly Google search volume
  • Instagram hashtag activity

Each factor contributed to a combined score used to rank beaches globally.

The study notes that destinations in non-English-speaking regions may be underrepresented, as the analysis focused on English-language search data.

Global competition

Other beaches included in the top 10 list are located in:

  • Australia
  • Greece
  • Portugal
  • Seychelles
  • Brazil
  • Hawaii

These destinations remain globally recognised, but South Africa’s performance places it at the centre of current travel interest.

Why this matters

The results come as South Africa’s tourism sector continues to gain traction, with international travel demand increasing.

Recognition in global rankings plays a role in influencing travel decisions and strengthening destination visibility.

For local tourism, this positions South Africa as a leading beach destination at a time when global travel patterns are shifting.
