Piano Takes Centre Stage for the 2026 Concert Series

The Cape Town Concert Series, one of South Africa’s longest-running chamber music platforms, proudly announces its 2026 season, placing the spotlight on its iconic Steinway Grand Piano as it celebrates 65 years of musical excellence made possible by Ian Burgess-Simpson Pianos.

The upcoming season promises a vibrant lineup of solo piano and chamber music, with leading local and international artists.

Season Highlights:

January 17: The season opens with award-winning pianist Alexander Ullman, renowned for his “powerful musical intellect and elegance”. Ullman, First Prize winner at the Franz Liszt International Piano Competition, will perform works from his acclaimed albums of Liszt and Grieg. This concert is presented in partnership with the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra, whose Summer Festival Season launches with Ullman on January 15^th in the City Hall.

February 14: Baroque specialist Erik Dippenaar presents Baroque Keys, featuring instruments predating the piano, including harpsichord, chamber organ and spinet. Audiences will have the unique opportunity to explore these instruments on stage after the performance.

March 14: In collaboration with the Stellenbosch International Piano Symposium, Bulgarian virtuoso Ludmil Angelov will perform a program of Mozart, Weber, and Chopin, for which he is internationally celebrated. Angelov will also appear with the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra and the Johannesburg Musical Society.

April 11: The Young Artists Recital features South African rising star Roelof Temmingh, recent recipient of the Royal College of Music’s prestigious Tagore Gold Medal. This concert is presented in collaboration with the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra’s Autumn Season.

June: The season concludes with a festive afternoon soiree celebrating Mozart’s 270th year. Charl du Plessis and his Trio, joined by the Cape Town Festival Orchestra under Richard Cock, present Mozart, Mambo and Merlot—a crossover program featuring Charl’s unique jazz-infused arrangements of The Magic Flute, Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, Rondo alla Turca, Symphony nr. 40 and many more.

All concerts take place at the Baxter Concert Hall, celebrated for its exceptional acoustics. Thanks to the generous support of the Rupert Music Foundation, ticket prices are kept affordable, ranging from just R100 for students to R280 / R300.
