What began as a bold idea between friends has become one of South Africa’s most iconic party experiences. This December, Oh Ship celebrates 15 voyages — more than a decade of music, shared laughter, and magic on the open ocean.
From dream to legendary sea party
Co-founded by DJ Fresh (Thato Sikwane), Euphonik (Themba Nkosi), and Tracey Marcus, Oh Ship started with a simple dream: to “captain our own ship.” The idea quickly turned into a movement that redefined entertainment at sea. A floating festival where strangers become friends, beats spill over the decks, and every sunset brings a new story.
Even the name – born from a late-night brainstorm (“Oh Sh*t — it happened!”) – captures the fun, fearless energy that defines every cruise.
A national tradition on the water
Since voyage one, Oh Ship has grown into a South African party institution.
So far, the voyage tally stands at:
• Over 37 000 passengers
• 240 DJs and live performers
• 45 comedians
• More than 1 000 dedicated crew members
Each cruise sells out fast. Each one delivers a 72-hour escape filled with music, sea breeze, and unmatched energy.
The decks have seen some of South Africa’s most loved artists, including Fresh, Euphonik, Sun-El Musician, Mo Flava, Ryan the DJ, Ayanda MVP, Vinny Da Vinci, and Dino Bravo. Comedy giants like Skhumba Hlophe, Celeste Ntuli, and Ndumiso Lindi have kept crowds cheering long past sunset.
Powered by MSC Cruises since day one
From the MSC Musica to the MSC Sinfonia, MSC Cruises has been Oh Ship’s ocean home. Together, they have turned waves into dance floors and decks into unforgettable stages.
A soundtrack for the movement
This milestone year also introduces something special — Oh Ship’s official anthem, “Celebrate”, produced by DJ Fresh and Euphonik. The track captures everything the brand stands for: unity, joy, freedom, and that feeling you only get dancing under the stars in the middle of the ocean.
Looking ahead to the next wave
Reflecting on the journey, DJ Fresh says:
“When we started Oh Ship, it was a dream. Fifteen voyages later, we’ve built a family. To everyone who has sailed with us — entertainers, crew, partners, and every Oh Shipper — thank you. Here’s to the next fifteen voyages. The magic doesn’t stop.”
As Oh Ship 2025 sails from Durban to Portuguese Island, the legacy grows. For those who missed this year’s sold-out celebration, bookings for Oh Ship 2026 open soon. Follow the official Oh Ship channels for updates and secure your spot on the next unforgettable journey.
