Toyota Fortuner GR-S, the all-in-one

323

Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM) has officially launched the highly anticipated Fortuner GR-S, a model that elevates the esteemed Fortuner brand to unprecedented levels.

This bold new variant marries unmatched off-road capability with refined performance and a striking, sporty aesthetic, marking a thrilling addition to Toyota’s growing lineup of GR-S models.

For the first time, the Fortuner sports the coveted GR-S badge, aligning it with its high-performing sibling, the Toyota Hilux GR-S. This launch marks a significant milestone in the evolution of the Fortuner, which has long been a staple on South African roads and off the beaten path.

A Revolutionary Approach

Toyota’s Gazoo Racing (GR) product lineup follows a carefully structured hierarchy designed to cater to varying performance enthusiasts. At the base, GR Parts offers accessories to enhance standard models. The next tier, GR-Sport (GR-S), introduces distinctive cosmetic upgrades with improved handling dynamics, as seen in popular models like the Hilux and Land Cruiser 300.

A New Performance

The Fortuner GR-S is a testament to Toyota’s ceaseless drive for innovation. This model is specifically engineered to deliver peak performance, whether it’s conquering rugged terrains or making an impressive entrance into urban landscapes.

Striking Design

With its dynamic front bumper, reconfigured lower grille, aggressive black front spoiler, and revamped fog lamp bezels, the Fortuner GR-S doesn’t just look tough—it commands attention. Riding on robust 18-inch GR alloy wheels, the vehicle expertly balances strength with agility, turning heads on every journey. The model is distinctive in two vibrant colours: Attitude Black and Platinum Pearl White.

Premium, Sporty Interior

Inside, the Fortuner GR-S embraces a motorsport-inspired atmosphere. The black-and-red interior theme, accentuated by smoke silver metallic and matte carbon trims, emanates modern elegance. Exclusive GR sports seats, crafted of perforated leather and suede with red stitching, ensure comfort and support, while unique GR-branded headrests deliver a personal touch.

The attention to detail continues with a GR-badged steering wheel featuring a bold red centre mark, complemented by a GR-start button that reinforces the sporty spirit. Aluminium sport pedals round out the interior, further underscoring the vehicle’s dynamic character.

Power and Performance

At the core of the Fortuner GR-S lies a formidable 2.8 GD-6 diesel engine, delivering an impressive 165kW of power and a hefty 550Nm of torque. This power feeds into a 6-speed automatic transmission, making it the most potent Fortuner variant yet. The inclusion of a monotube shock absorber system further enhances ride comfort and handling precision, making every drive an exhilarating experience—whether traversing off-road trails or cruising down the highway.

A crucial element of the Fortuner’s success is its remarkable 4X4 and all-wheel drive capabilities. Built on a rugged ladder-on-frame chassis, this SUV is prepared to withstand the harshest terrains, offering unmatched durability. Additionally, Toyota’s legendary build quality has solidified the Fortuner’s reputation, ensuring high resale value—a crucial consideration for buyers.

The Fortuner GR-S is competitively priced at R999 000, and it comes with an extensive service plan, including 9 services over 90 000 km with intervals of 10 000 km, and a 3-year/100 000 km warranty, providing added peace of mind for potential buyers.
