This inaugural event marks the beginning of the 2025 SPAR Grand Prix series, where Africa’s elite and experienced female runners will compete not only for coveted titles but also for substantial cash prizes and points in pursuit of the prestigious SPAR Grand Prix crown.
With a total of five races lined up, this year’s series promises exhilarating competition and substantial rewards.
SPAR’s National PR, Communications and Sponsorship Manager, Mpudi Maubane, highlighted that these challenges extend beyond athletics.

The overall winner of the SPAR Grand Prix will take home a remarkable R200 000, with the runner-up and third-placed athlete also receiving generous sums of R100 000 and R75 000 respectively.
Adding to the excitement, South African contenders will compete for additional rewards, the top female runner in the country will earn an extra R100 000, while second and third places net R70 000 and R50 000.
Moreover, junior runners can celebrate their achievements too, with an R10 000 prize set for the top junior over three races.
Maubane added: “This multifaceted approach ensures that the SPAR Women’s Challenges not only promote physical wellbeing but also contribute to a safer and more equitable society for women in South Africa.”
Each race also connects with SPAR’s commitment to combating Gender Based Violence and eliminating Period Poverty by 2030, reflecting a dedication to promoting a safer and more equitable society.
Meanwhile, a new aspect this year comes with the announcement of Hyundai Automotive South Africa as the national vehicle sponsor for the series.
Gideon Jansen van Rensburg, CEO of Hyundai Automotive South Africa, expressed the company’s commitment to women’s empowerment, saying, “Women empowerment is an integral part of Hyundai Automotive South Africa’s business philosophy and has been central to our growth and success.”
