Race Details
Participants can choose between two exhilarating distances: the 56km Ultra Marathon and the 21km Half Marathon. Both routes promise a unique experience, showcasing the best of Cape Town’s dramatic coastal and mountain scenery.
56km Ultra Marathon
The ultra route is renowned for its striking coastal views, punctuated by two significant climbs that challenge even the most seasoned runners. Here are the key features of the 56km route:
First 28km: This section is relatively flat, offering a gentle introduction on rolling hills along the picturesque False Bay coastline.
Chapman’s Peak (28-34km): Prepare yourself for a breathtaking ascent where the views are as beautiful as they are daunting; a real highlight of the journey.
Constantia Nek (42-47km): This is arguably the toughest climb of the race, a section where many runners experience the infamous ‘wall’. Strong mental fortitude is required to push through here.
Final 9km: As you make your way towards the finish line at the University of Cape Town (UCT), enjoy a rolling descent. Just beware; your quads will be put to the test!
21km Half Marathon
For those taking on the half marathon, expect a demanding course that kicks off with a long, steady climb up Edinburgh Drive, before rewarding you with a rolling descent towards the finish. While shorter in distance, this race is no less thrilling, offering its own unique set of challenges and scenic views.
Time Limits and Finishing Strong
To ensure a smooth experience for all participants, there is a 7-hour cut-off for the ultra-marathon and a 3-hour cut-off for the half marathon. Runners are encouraged to pace themselves wisely—ensuring they embrace the beautiful journey while striving for their personal bests.
The Two Oceans Marathon is more than just a race; it’s an experience that encapsulates the spirit of South African culture and the natural beauty of its landscapes. Whether you’re a seasoned runner or a first-timer, this marathon promises to be an unforgettable challenge.
