Thula Sindi built his way up in the fashion world. The elite South African fashion designer worked his creative hands to the bone for each success and today the Thula Sindi Brand is known for its luxurious African creations, quality craftsmanship, and tailored designs. He recently showcased his brand together with his Africa Rise Store fashion collective in China, a market he would love to tap into.
As founder of the Africa Store Rise in Sandton, considered the premier destination for an immersive experience in the vibrant world of African fashion, the store is currently on its fifth-year milestone, pioneering the African talent and creativity as a catalyst for change in the global fashion landscape.
Thula cites Gavin Rajah as his key to his breakthrough. It was 17 years ago when Gavin set him on his global fashion path at the Gavin Rajah’s Brand South Africa Paris Showcase. Today, Thula is all about empowering South Africa as a whole and spotlighting South African designers. And knowing well, heritage plays a role in lifting the South African brand and fashion up, Thula shared his do’s and don’ts when it comes to taking pride in one’s heritage and celebrating your own heritage through fashion.
1.Invest in clothing pieces made from natural fibers like cotton, silk and linen. They feel better and last longer.
2. Purchase heritage clothing from local designers and crafters.
3. Research more about other cultures and customs to broaden your knowledge and appreciation.
4. Have a fun adding heritage elements to your daily wardrobe.
5. Don’t be afraid of colour, experiment with exploring colours even if it’s just accessories.
