Classic Car Show to rev up at Nasrec Expo Centre

177

The vibrant and eagerly anticipated 13th rendition of The Classic Car Show is set to roll into action at the Nasrec Expo Centre, located just south-west of Johannesburg’s bustling CBD, on Sunday, July 6, 2025.

Car lovers and families are invited to experience a unique assembly of classic vehicles, with gates opening to the public at 9 am. Tickets are now available through Computicket, with prices set at R100 for adults and R40 for children under 12.

This year’s event promises a diverse spectrum of classic cars, attracting not only viewers but also passionate owners keen to showcase their beloved machines. The iconic showcase will be situated at the west side of the Nasrec grounds, with entry provided via Gate Seven, ensuring convenient access for all attendees.

Event organiser Paulo Calisto, who has spearheaded this remarkable journey since its inception in 2012, reassures both owners and spectators regarding the best access routes to the venue.

“I am advising both owners of classic cars and spectators to use the access route from the west, which will mean skirting the Johannesburg CBD en-route to Nasrec,” says Calisto.

However, those coming from the N1 highway can avoid traffic by transitioning to the right-hand lane and turning left at the second traffic light on Rand Show Road, leading directly to Gates 5 and 7.

Calisto emphasises the importance of a smooth arrival for classic car enthusiasts, mentioning,

“Drivers of bona fide classics and more modern special collectable cars can enter via Gate 7 from 8 am, with free admission for the driver and one passenger.” Spectators wishing to witness the excitement can park conveniently close to Gate 5, entering from 9 am.

While advance bookings are encouraged for a significantly lower price, cash entry will also be viable for those who prefer more spontaneous attendance.

The Classic Car Show has evolved remarkably from its humble beginnings, starting with Calisto’s expectation of a few dozen vehicles at a small restaurant event. To his surprise, the turnout exceeded expectations tenfold, setting the stage for an annual celebration that now captivates a wide audience across the region.

This year’s event also marks the continuation of what was meant to be the 14th show, as Covid-19 paused its schedule. Since then, Calisto and his team have refined the experience, committed to curating an assemblage of classic cars which boasts a unique mix not seen in any other South African event. The geographical location of the Nasrec Expo Centre further enhances the variety, featuring an extraordinary mix of classic muscle cars and rare European gems.

Among the American classics on display will be iconic vehicles dating back to the late 1950s, including original Pontiacs, Oldsmobiles, and luxurious Buicks carrying the rich heritage of the muscle car era. Spectators can look forward to stunning Chevys from the Tri-Chevy years (1955-1957) and muscle cars from the 1970s, inclusive of Ford Mustangs and big Cadillacs that demand attention.

Furthermore, the show reflects the European influence from the regional classic car community, showcasing rare Ford Taunuses, Opel Mantas, and various DKW models, contributing to a captivating mix rarely seen in one venue. As always, classic legends such as the VW Kombi and VW Beetle will be represented in formidable style.

“The idea to do a classic car show back in 2012 has changed my life,” shares Calisto. Apart from the impressive vehicles, The Classic Car Show provides ample entertainment for families. Attendees can enjoy thrilling drifting displays, exhilarating helicopter rides, and fun-filled jumping castles, with culinary delights served by premier vendors hailing from the Johannesburg South area.
