Do you sing in a restaurant or pub? Are you the local karaoke star? Are you a regular background or session singer? Or even an established singer? Then kykNET’s new music game show, Oppi noot, might just be the big break you’ve been dreaming of.
Oppi noot is a fun game show where singers compete against each other in a series of diverse and entertaining music challenges. The show is produced by Stemmburg Televisie, responsible for hit programmes like Noot vir noot and Musiekroulette.
The host is the ever-popular Emo Adams. He performed in musicals by David Kramer and Taliep Petersen as a child and later became a big star as singer and host of TV programmes such as Jou show, Maak my famous and Noot vir noot.
“What can viewers expect? Fun, enjoyment, lots of laughter, singing along and something completely different,” says Emo. “There hasn’t been a programme like this on South African TV before. What makes it different is that this is a game show specifically for singers. The goal is not to test music knowledge or singing abilities but rather to see how participants fare with singing-based games. It’s a feel-good show, and I believe viewers will enjoy every minute.”
The singers will be accompanied by an orchestra led by Jaconell Mouton.
Oppi noot is not a reality TV singing competition. Singers will earn points for their performance in various games. The more songs you have in your repertoire, the better. Three singers will participate in each episode, and there is cash to be won in every programme. The further you progress to the final round, the more money is at stake.
Three lucky viewers will be chosen every week to participate as air partners in the show. Air partners win money based on how well their singing partners perform in the programme.
In each episode, there are five randomly selected viewers. Every show begins with the evening’s singers each singing one verse of a song. The first three out of the five viewers who can correctly identify the songs are chosen as that programme’s air partners. And the best part is, you don’t even have to leave your living room.
As an air partner, you are paired with the singer whose song title you correctly identified. You will then win a sum of money depending on whether your singer achieves first, second, or third place. So, each of the evening’s three air partners is guaranteed to win something. Information on how to become an air partner will be announced later, but the call for singers to enter is already open. If you are a singer who can hold a tune, and you want to participate in the show, send a video recording of yourself singing your favourite song along with your name, age and where you live via WhatsApp to 072 511 2986.
