Cape Town Tourism elects new board and Chairperson

Cape Town Tourism, the official destination marketing organisation (DMO) for the City of Cape Town, has announced significant new appointments to its board. Esteemed professionals Tarryn Tomlinson, CEO at LiveAble, and Samantha Clingham, Director of Operations at Southern Sun, have been appointed new board members. Additionally, Tracy Mkhize, COO at Cape Town International Convention Centre, will take on the role of Chairperson of the board.

Enver Duminy, CEO of Cape Town Tourism, says, “We are thrilled to welcome Tarryn Tomlinson, Samantha Clingham and Tracy Mkhize to the Cape Town Tourism board. Each of them brings a unique set of skills and experiences that are crucial for the growth and sustainability of our tourism sector. Tarryn’s dynamic leadership and strategic planning expertise, Samantha’s deep understanding of travel and tourism operations, and Tracy’s extensive experience in the hospitality industry and strong leadership skills align perfectly with our mission to promote Cape Town as a world-class destination.”

Tomlinson, with close to a decade of experience in various leadership roles, brings a wealth of knowledge in strategic planning and team management, and Clingham, a veteran in the travel and tourism industry with over 35 years of experience, offers a depth of insight into operations, marketing, and business growth within the sector.

Mkhize, the new board Chairperson, has a robust background in the hospitality industry, including her current role at the Cape Town International Convention Centre. With a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of the Witwatersrand and multiple management qualifications, the DMO says her extensive experience and leadership qualities will help steer the Mother City towards continued success.

Mkhize adds, “I am both honoured and excited to step into the role of Chairperson for Cape Town Tourism’s board as we embark on our journey towards the 2024 vision. I am eager to work alongside the newly appointed board members, whose expertise is invaluable, to not only continue the exceptional work done by our predecessors but also create new, dynamic strategies that will ensure Cape Town is more than just a premier destination but an inclusive community that offers unforgettable experiences.”

The Cape Town Tourism Board says the new appointments are a significant move towards the DMO’s 2024 vision. The new board members and Chairperson will play pivotal roles in establishing international partnerships and help guide innovative technological innovations, including using virtual reality to market the Mother City. Their collective expertise will not only continue the DMO’s successful campaigns in key source markets but also enhance Cape Town’s digital and global presence in the tourism industry.

The Cape Town Tourism Board also thanked outgoing Chairperson Wahida Parker and board member Alison Coughlan for their dedicated service and remarkable contribution to the DMO. It adds that their leadership and commitment have been instrumental in promoting Cape Town as a premier tourist destination.

“As we bid farewell to Wahida Parker and Alison Coughlan, we reflect on their remarkable contributions that have significantly shaped the narrative of Cape Town Tourism. Moving forward, we are confident that our new board members and Chairperson will continue this legacy of excellence, bringing innovative perspectives and strategies to further enhance the experience of every visitor to our beautiful city. Together, we can continue positioning Cape Town as a vibrant, dynamic, and inclusive destination to visit with rich experiences for all,” adds Duminy.

Cape Town Tourism says it remains committed to curating unforgettable experiences for visitors and fostering sustainable tourism that benefits the entire Cape Town community.

Board members at the DMO serve a three-year term in office.
