The Galileo Open Air Cinema, synonymous with magical outdoor movie experiences, is set to cast Cupid’s arrow over the week of love with a line-up of five captivating films, each ticking the boxes for romance and entertainment. Newly added to this year’s mix is the ‘Galentine’s Day’ celebration on February 13th, a day dedicated to raising a toast to ‘the gals’; to friendship and camaraderie- regardless of your relationship status.

The weeks’ worth of cinematic celebrations kicks off on February 13th, with a sassy screening of Coyote Ugly at Kirstenbosch Garden. The Galileo invites everyone, whether single or coupled up, to celebrate loved ones who add a little sunshine to life.

As the calendar turns to Valentine’s Day on February 14th, The Galileo offers a special screening of The Proposal at Nooitgedacht in Stellenbosch. The exquisite estate is framed by mountain and vineyard vistas, providing the perfect backdrop to your Valentine’s plans.

On Valentine’s Day, included in your ticket price of only R295 per person is a package of delightful treats that will make your Valentine’s Day even more special. This romantic evening includes live entertainment by saxophone sensation Kirya Kuti. You will get a welcome glass of Cap Classique bubbly, thanks to Villiera Wines, or a refreshing Sir Fruit juice on arrival. As if that wasn’t enough to make you swoon, your ticket includes a chocolate. Plus, we’re keeping the romance alive with a classic Valentine’s Day must-have: a red rose from the talented florists at Bunches for Africa.

Visitors can also make a turn at the essence activation, where they’re able to spin the wheel for prizes in the form of beauty items or 10% discount codes for the essence make-up and beauty online store.

Galileo guests are invited to arrive early, from 5pm, to enjoy some bubbly and a shared toast with loved ones. From there, grab a selection of delicious goodies from the artisanal mini-market on-site and enjoy them picnic style on the expansive lawns. From scrumptious pizzas, juicy burgers, wholesome wraps to nachos, sweet treats and of course, popcorn- everyone is catered to including vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and Halaal options.

Those searching to woo your sweetheart at the Valentine’s Day show and earn even more brownie points are able to further spoil loved ones with the ultimate thoughtful touch, a special note displayed on the big screen. Book your tickets then fill in the form by 8th February to ensure your message steals the show.

Those unable to get to the Winelands or celebrate on the actual day are still able to feel the love with a week-long celebration planned around reigniting romance and a nod to heart-draped decor. The screenings continue with a host of heart-warming films, ideal for your date night plans and with the first two family-friendly films being a great option for involving the whole family.

February 15th: The Wedding Singer, Kirstenbosch Garden, Newlands

February 16th: Gnomeo And Juliet, Kirstenbosch Garden, Newlands

February 17th: Romeo And Juliet, Lourensford Wine Estate, Somerset West

Valentine’s Day aside, The Galileo offers an ideal outing for date nights, birthday celebrations and social gatherings, all throughout the summer months. The recipe remains beautifully simple- a selection of favourite films to suit all movie buffs, a ceiling of stars and some of Cape Town’s and the Winelands most iconic venues.

Don’t miss out on the chance to attend The Galileo’s exciting shows this summer. Keep an eye on their social media accounts for the weekly line-up, but be sure to book your tickets as soon as possible.
