Grammy Award-winning artist Lalah Hathaway will headline the inaugural Montreux Jazz Festival Franschhoek, marking a major moment for the festival’s African debut.
Taking place from 27–29 March 2026 in Franschhoek Valley, the Swiss-born festival brings together nearly 40 international and local artists in a celebration of jazz, soul and contemporary music.
A global line-up meets local talent
The final programme features a mix of international icons and emerging voices.
Joining the line-up are:
• Robert Glasper and Bilal
• Matt Hansen
• Tigran Hamasyan
• Caleb Dlamini and Friends
Matt Hansen will perform on The Arches stage, bringing a contemporary sound shaped by his strong global digital following.
At the Jazz Village stage, hosted inside a historic church, Tigran Hamasyan will showcase his experimental approach to modern jazz.
Spotlight on the next generation
A key focus of the festival is emerging South African talent.
Franschhoek-born drummer Caleb Dlamini, aged 17, leads a collective performance that reflects the festival’s commitment to nurturing young artists.
The programme also highlights talent from the Uncorked Music Academy, including 13-year-old saxophonist Graigan Papier, who will perform alongside Kesivan Naidoo’s amaBig Band Experience.
Support from FRANCO continues to play a role in developing young musicians through access to education and performance opportunities.
A meeting of heritage and innovation
Festival co-founder Raffaella Goedvolk says the programme reflects the core identity of Montreux.
“The meeting of generations is what defines the festival, from established global artists to young musicians shaping the future of jazz.”
This approach creates a platform where musical heritage and new ideas intersect.
A multi-sensory festival experience
Across the three-day event, performances will take place across multiple stages in the Cape Winelands.
Visitors can expect:
• Live performances across genres
• DJ sets and vinyl selectors
• Food and wine experiences
• Cultural and immersive activations
The festival combines music with the broader lifestyle offering of the region.
A landmark debut in Africa
The arrival of Montreux Jazz Festival Franschhoek marks a significant expansion of the globally recognised brand.
With its mix of international stars, African innovation and rising talent, the 2026 edition sets the tone for future events on the continent.
