Kaleidoscope Music & Arts Festival Returns to Prince Albert

219

The Karoo town of Prince Albert will once again become a stage for music, art and creativity when the Kaleidoscope Music & Arts Festival returns from 21 to 23 August 2026.

Following a successful debut in 2025, this year’s festival promises an expanded programme featuring celebrated South African and international musicians, emerging young performers and multidisciplinary artists across three days of performances, workshops and community celebrations.

Founded by renowned violist Dr Louise Lansdown, the festival has grown beyond its chamber music origins to embrace a diverse mix of musical genres and artistic disciplines, creating a platform that celebrates artistic excellence while investing in the next generation of performers.

World-Class Performers Headline the Festival

This year’s programme features acclaimed guitarist Guy Buttery and internationally recognised classical guitarist Derek Gripper among a strong line-up of South African musicians and ensembles.

“The festival is rooted in artistic excellence, but also in opportunity, education and connection,” says Lansdown. “It brings established professionals and young musicians together in a shared creative space, while supporting long-term music education in Prince Albert.”

Supporting Young Musicians

Education remains at the heart of the festival.

Kaleidoscope directly supports the ARCO-PACT Strings Project, which provides violin, viola, cello and double bass tuition to more than 100 children across schools in Prince Albert.

This year, more than 250 young musicians will participate in concerts, workshops and collaborative performances throughout the festival.

Participating youth ensembles include:

  • ARCO-PACT String Orchestras
  • Grey High School String Orchestra
  • Music Sprouts Access Program Violin Ensemble
  • Frank Pietersen Music Centre String Orchestras
  • Rustenburg Girls’ High School String Quartet

Music, Poetry and Visual Arts

The festival’s multidisciplinary programme extends beyond music to include poetry and visual arts.

Artists appearing at this year’s event include Jan-Hendrik Harley, Chanda Bupe Lupambo, Sifiso Mbatha, Mariechen Meyer, Tony Alcock, Nina Fourie-Gouws, Tiaan Uys, Ché Adams, David Bester, Lieva Starker and Jivaan Luttig.

Visitors will also experience works by poet LyricL Nkechi and photographer Karl Schoemaker, highlighting the festival’s commitment to showcasing a wide range of creative expression.

Festival Highlights

One of the standout events will be the Kaleidoscope Mass Youth Orchestra performance at the Prince Albert Showground on Saturday, 22 August.

The festival concludes on Sunday, 23 August with Confluence, a closing performance that brings together the artists, musicians and young performers who have shaped the weekend’s celebrations.

For music lovers, art enthusiasts and anyone looking to experience the unique atmosphere of the Karoo, the Kaleidoscope Music & Arts Festival offers a weekend where world-class performances meet community, education and creative collaboration.
