Jimmy Nevis will bring his music-and-theatre production Roses & Thorns to the Pam Golding Theatre at The Baxter on Saturday, 21 November 2026, at 8pm.
The one-night performance combines songs from his 14-year catalogue with a six-piece live band, theatrical storytelling and visual elements. Actor Dean Smith will bring four distinct characters to life.
Tickets cost between R250 and R350 and are available through Webtickets or at Pick n Pay stores.
Four Stories Give Nevis’s Songs New Meaning
Following its debut earlier this year, Roses & Thorns returns in a new setting, presenting Nevis’s music through character-driven stories.
The Cape Town-rooted production draws on his identity and lived experience as a coloured man to explore love, loss, violence, family and hope.
Smith, an award-winning stage and television actor, performs the four characters, connecting the songs with stories reflecting the communities and lives around them.
“Roses & Thorns is about the things we carry, the experiences that shape us and the different sides of ourselves that we don’t always show the world,” says Nevis.
“I’m excited to bring the production to The Baxter and share this experience with audiences in a space that allows us to explore music and storytelling together.”
Live Band and Theatre Team Shape the Production
Nevis, a six-time South African Music Awards nominee known for contemporary pop and R&B, is the production’s creator, performer and producer.
The creative team also includes:
- Kim Blanché Adonis, director and scriptwriter.
- Daniel Mpilo May Richards, associate producer and scriptwriter.
- Darren Petersen, musical director and producer.
Together with the six-piece band, the team combines live music, storytelling and cinematic visuals, giving audiences a different way to experience Nevis’s catalogue.
