After a close friend experienced cardiac arrest, we became acutely aware of the critical role Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) play in providing timely therapy within the first 5 minutes of collapse. This revelation spurred us into action, notably as we recognised the stark contrast between South Africa’s limited AED adoption and the comprehensive public AED programs globally. Thus, Ventria was born to educate and equip South African businesses and public spaces with AEDs to save lives.

The name “Ventria” is a combination of “ventricle” and “atria,” reflecting the four chambers of the heart. This blend encapsulates the essence of our company’s focus and product offering.

Sudden cardiac arrest is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. Ventria is dedicated to improving public health and safety in South Africa by educating businesses about the importance of AEDs and providing these life-saving devices to their communities. Our mission involves raising awareness about cardiac arrest and the critical window of opportunity for intervention, emphasising the need for AEDs to be readily available in public spaces and workplaces. Our efforts aim to increase AED adoption across South Africa, ultimately saving lives by ensuring timely responses to medical emergencies.

As a business-to-business company, we recognise bystanders’ vital role in delivering life-saving therapy with our equipment. To support this, we conduct bystander training sessions to ensure individuals are proficient in using our devices. Additionally, we offer remote monitoring services to ensure our equipment remains rescue-ready during emergencies. Alarmingly, 6 out of 10 AEDs in the field are not rescue-ready due to expired pads or dead batteries—a significant issue that needs urgent attention. To address this challenge, we offer comprehensive service plans, making AED ownership financially viable for businesses of any size.

Over the past two years, Ventria has expanded its product offering to include emergency service bags, first aid equipment, and LifeVac, a choking rescue device. Like sudden cardiac arrest, time is crucial in a choking emergency. LifeVac is a safe, easy, and very effective way to remove the obstruction if the standard choking protocol fails.
