5 Ways to get a holiday workout without going to the gym

When you’re  on holiday in a new country, indulging in the local food and drink scene seems inevitable. Because you are so busy exploring a new city, no one has time to go to the gym. And when you come home, you work twice as hard in the gym. Well, you don’t need to if you follow these easy steps to the perfect vacation workout. Here’s how.

Lounging by the beach

If your vacation destination boasts sandy shores and sparkling waves, take advantage of the natural playground. Why not? There’s nothing as refreshing as beachside walks and relaxing on the sand. The waves, the breeze, the sun’s rays hitting your body to give you that Vitamin D boost you need. Exploring a new coastal destination is another good way of keeping fit. The beach and sea cliff walks will keep you energised, refreshed, and ready to enjoy every minute of your vacation.

Morning Stretches over your hotel view

Kickstart your mornings with a few stretches from your hotel room, letting the breeze in through the window to awaken your body and mind. Start with stretching your hands, some gentle neck rolls, shoulder stretches, and arm circles to release tension accrued during sleep. You don’t want it to feel like heavy work because you are probably going to hit the gym hard when you get home. Complete your routine with a few deep breaths and a spinal twist to invigorate your senses and prepare for the day ahead.

Retreat to Nature

Outdoor activities are an integral part of your holiday. Your body needs some blood flow and flexibility to promote blood circulation. If hiking is on your list, go for it. Take bush walks and wander along forest paths and through lush meadows as you soak in the sights and sounds of the wilderness. Engage in simple yoga to refine your mindfulness and inner peace. Unwind with a leisurely bike ride along scenic routes, drinking in the benefits  of nature as you pass through serene, picturesque landscapes. End your night with restorative foam baths.

Swimming

In summer, the sun can be uncomfortably hot,  so you are going to find yourself in the pool if you love the feel of water hitting your body. Swimming is a great activity that is excellent for multiple muscle groups. Simply enjoy leisurely floating and treading water.  Make it cool and Instagram worthy with nice swimwear and hot shades!

Cycling

Most cities in the world have rent-a-bike shops. Not sure how, but many travellers ride their bikes holding an ice cream cone. Cycling is a fun way of sightseeing while getting in a good workout for your legs. If cycling is not your thing, try dancing.  Put on some music and have a mini dance, or learn a new cultural dance, pausing along the way for impromptu street performances After all dancing is a fun way to get your heart rate up and burn calories while enjoying yourself. Spontaneity is a great ice-breaker and leads to new meetings. IB
