Cape Town’s iconic attraction welcomes visitors just in time for Tourism Month!

The wait is over! As Cape Town begins to shake off the winter chill, there’s no better way to embrace the upcoming season than by soaring to the summit of one of the world’s most iconic natural wonders. Table Mountain Aerial Cableway (TMACC) is back in action after a comprehensive seven-week maintenance period, just in time to kick off Tourism Month in style.

Lower Station was a buzz of activity as visitors flocked to the Cableway on opening morning.

“Over a million tourists visit the Cableway each year, and they have sold 7000 tickets just for today,” Western Cape Premier Alan Winde remarked. “Last year we broke all tourism records with tourists coming into the Western Cape.”

This year’s annual maintenance was all about ensuring that every visitor’s experience is nothing short of world-class.

“We’ve replaced the track ropes, overhauled the hanging and running gear, and adhered to strict Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) specifications,” said Selma Hercules, Executive Director of TMACC. “It’s all part of our ongoing commitment to safety, quality, and excellence.”

As spring blossoms across the Southern Hemisphere, Cape Town buzzes with life, and the reopening of the Cableway couldn’t be more perfectly timed.

“Tourism Month is our chance to shine,” Hercules continued. “We invite both locals and international visitors to rediscover the breathtaking beauty of Table Mountain and enjoy the best views in the city from our state-of-the-art Cableway.”

The excitement doesn’t stop there. Table Mountain Aerial Cableway was recently named KFM’s Best of the Cape Local Tourist Attraction for the third consecutive year! Plus, this New 7 Wonder of Nature is in the running for Africa’s Leading Tourist Attraction at the prestigious World Travel Awards. Voting closes on 8 September, so cast your vote and help South Africa bring this title home by visiting World Travel Awards.

South Africans who celebrated their birthdays during the Cableway’s annual maintenance period have until 30 September 2024 to collect their free Cableway birthday ticket. Simply present your valid South African ID at the Lower Station ticket office.

To ensure your visit is as seamless as possible, the TMACC team has put together some top tips:

  • Buy your tickets online: Save money by purchasing your tickets online. Online tickets are valid for 7 days and are extendable in case you need to change the date of your visit and refundable in case of inclement weather.
  • Tafelberg road access: With ongoing roadworks on Tafelberg Road, we recommend that you Park and Ride, and use the free shuttle service that runs from the Lower Kloof Nek  parking to the Lower Station.
  • Skip the queue: Opt for a Fast Track ticket to bypass the wait and spend more time soaking in the views.
  • Delicious new eats and treats: Our food and beverage outlets have been refreshed with new offerings, including vegan options, kiddies’ meals, and gourmet milkshakes. A delight for all ages!
  • Shop at the Top: Find unique, locally sourced souvenirs at our Shop at the Top, available in-store and online.
  • Operating times: From 1 September to 14 December, the first car ascends at 8:30 AM, with the last ride up at 6:00 PM. Always stay tuned to our website and social media platforms to stay updated with all things operational.

As Cape Town gears up for a vibrant summer season, make sure a visit to TMACC is at the top of your to-do list. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a seasoned local, the Cableway offers an experience like no other. Come and see why it’s the crown jewel of Cape Town!
