From brunch to the beach, and everything in between
By Temo Mpodi
Ah, Valentine’s Day – just around the corner! And we all know what that means: it’s that time of year when everyone asks, “Where’s your boyfriend?” No man, no cat, no dog? Darling, this 14th February, I’ll be binge-watching romcoms on Netflix, diving into a bucket of ice cream, and snuggling up in my cutest white lace pyjamas – because self-love is self-care, right? When it’s time to call it a night, I’ll be hitting ‘Club Duvet,’ surrounded by soft scents and the sweetest dreams.
But for those of you heading out for a romantic evening, weekend getaway, or cosy brunch with your boo, I’ve got the looks that will turn heads and keep you feeling fabulous. Here’s what to wear for every occasion this Valentine’s Day:
What to wear for brunch?
Keep it casual yet chic for a relaxed, romantic brunch date. Think airy, beautiful blouses, flirty skirts, and custom-made shorts – feminine but effortless. A soft pink blouse paired with red high-waisted trousers gives off a playful yet subtle vibe, and cute flat sandals add a touch of ease. Keep your make-up minimal – moist skin, flushed cheeks, and a soft pink lip. You’re going for “I just woke up like this” chic – effortless, yet undeniably cute.
What to wear for lunch?
For a Valentine’s lunch, let’s elevate things a little. A balloon dress in cream, red, or floral prints is perfect. Glam it up with gold accessories – a watch, a delicate chain, and bracelets. If you opt for a red dress, go all in with red heels and paint the city red with sass. Otherwise, you can’t go wrong with a cream dream on a sunny day – it radiates elegance and sophistication.
What to wear for dinner?
For an elegant evening out, you’ll want something that turns heads. A red suit? Absolutely. A little black dress? Timeless. But let’s make it fun—go for one with a daring neckline or a statement sleeve. Don’t be afraid to wear something that screams romance; after all, it’s an adventurous day. Pair it with strappy heels and a bold red lip, and get ready for a night to remember.
What to wear for a full beach day?
A long, flirty cover-up over a chic one-piece swimsuit in a neutral tone – cream, blush, beige, or soft coral – screams laid-back luxury. Black is also a luxe option. Throw on oversized sunglasses and a floppy hat for that extra touch of glam. You’ll be strolling that beach looking like the queen you are.
What to pack for a weekend away?
Packing for a Valentine’s weekend getaway should feel like a little adventure of its own – you never know if he’s going to propose! A silky slip dress is a must – the most romantic fabric a woman can own. Opt for one with an open back for that extra flair. Also, don’t forget your joggers, a cute swimsuit, and another stunning dinner dress – because you deserve options.
What to wear for a sport date?
Whether you’re ice skating, hiking, or cycling around town, you can still look effortlessly stylish. Sporty-chic is the vibe. A unique cut top with matching tights? Perfect. A stylish bomber jacket for unexpected breezes? Essential. And don’t forget your colourful trainers! A messy bun and fresh face with minimal foundation complete the look. If you have short hair like me, make sure you have a clean cut for that extra edge.
Go ahead and own 14th February in your own style!
