What’s Champagne Day without Moët? Just a blur. Moët & Chandon lit up the occasion with a sparkling celebration of art and creativity. Held at The Forum White Light in Lanseria, the evening gathered artists, trendsetters, and creators from all walks, each sharing the stories behind their passions.
Embracing the theme of “Endless Creativity in Craftsmanship,” the event showcased the brand’s signature elegance through gold, black, and white décor, while guests brought their own interpretations of “Glamorously Crafted” to life through fashion. The evening was hosted by acclaimed South African designer Thebe Magugu, who arrived in one of his own creations, embodying the innovation and artistry that has made his brand a standout in the worlds of art and fashion.
For 281 years, the Maison has been all about exceptional winemaking, known for honouring terroir, craftsmanship and true savoir-faire. Moët & Chandon is also celebrated as an innovator, both in the cellar and the vineyards, with a strong commitment to sustainability at the core of its future vision.
These unique qualities were highlighted as part of this year’s Champagne Day celebrations spanning eight African countries, as the evening unfolded in three distinct phases, guiding guests through an immersive exploration of Moët & Chandon,
Thebe shared his personal take on Moët & Chandon’s savoir-faire, inspired by his trip to Épernay earlier this year. Inspired by the abundance of roses there, he reimagined them as garments, creating a gradient print – red for love, pink for joy, and white for purity – in his custom design.
“This garment embodies the spirit of endless creativity I experienced in champagne making, where tradition meets modernity and every detail reflects passion and expertise. Inspired by my time in Épernay, it celebrates the vibrant fusion of African artistry and craftsmanship, with each stitch telling a story and every colour resonating with meaning,” he explained.
Suspended on gilded displays for all to admire, his creation featured a bodice resembling rose petals paired with a pleated skirt, merging couture drama with ready-to-wear comfort. The event culminated in a vibrant homage to celebration and storytelling, with a performance from Muneyi and the unveiling of the Épernay to Africa photo wall.
