Embrace the winter chill: Heart of the Helderberg wine and food pairings

Back by popular demand, Somerset West wine estates are offering delectable, value-for money food and wine specials during the chilly winter months.

Erinvale Hotel & Spa and Erinvale Golf Estate, Lourensford, Morgenster and Vergelegen are members of the Heart of the Helderberg collective. They are collaborating to raise awareness of the exceptional wines, cuisine and experiences available in this beautiful area, less than an hour’s drive from Cape Town.

The winter warmers include the following:

Vergelegen Wine Estate: Baked Camembert and wine pairing.

Vergelegen offers a delicious baked Camembert, topped with roasted nuts and drizzled with estate honey. This treat is paired with two glasses of DNA red wine. Enjoy at the wine tasting room, Mondays to Sundays.

Erinvale Estate Hotel and Spa: Winter soups paired with fine wine.

Choose from two classic soups: Roasted tomato soup (R85) with whipped feta, chives and basil, served with a toasted Camembert roll. Alternatively, pork belly broth (R145) with broccoli, mushroom, bok choy, noodles and a boiled egg.

Lourensford Wine Estate: Soups and Limited Release wines pairing.

Relish the hearty flavours of chicken soup paired with Limited Release Chardonnay; mushroom soup paired with Limited Release Viognier; biltong soup paired with Limited Release SMV (Shiraz, Mourvedre, Viognier); and butternut soup paired with the estate’s delicious honey liqueur.

Morgenster Estate: Italian-style platter for two.

The generous platter features a selection of Italian cheeses and charcuterie, plus seasonal soup, served with focaccia. The platter is available in the tasting room, Monday to Sunday, 09:00 to 17:00.
