The awards season is far from over, and Showmax is already racking up wins. At The National Film and TV Awards South Africa, held at the Opera House in Tshwane on Saturday, 9 November 2024, Showmax was named Best Television/Streaming Network. With 14 awards – the most of any streamer – content on the platform continues to shine.
That same night, at The Behind-the-Scenes Awards at Gold Reef City, Showmax added more victories to its collection. The Showmax Original teen drama Youngins, produced by Tshedza Pictures, took home Best South African Streaming Series, while Mzansi Magic’s polygamy reality show Mnakwethu won Most Entertaining Reality TV Show.
Following its win as Entertainment App of the Year at the 2024 Stuff App Awards, Showmax further solidified its place as the go-to platform for South African content. In 2024, titles on Showmax earned 37 Golden Horns from 142 nominations at the South African Film and Television Awards – the most of any streamer. This included Shaka iLembe, the most awarded title overall, which set a new record for the most wins in the Drama category, while Outlaws, a Showmax Original, placed joint second overall and dominated the Telenovela category. At the 2024 Silwerskerm Film and TV Awards, Koek, another Showmax Original crime drama, was the most awarded series of the night.
Showmax’s success continues with Die Brug from kykNET, which is nominated for an International Emmy for Best Non-Scripted Entertainment on Tuesday, 26 November 2024. This marks the third consecutive year that local content on Showmax has received an International Emmy nomination, following Two Sides (2023), a rugby documentary, and Reyka (2022), a crime drama.
Not to be outdone, Showmax’s marketing and PR team is on a winning streak as well, having taken home two Loeries and the Gold PRISM Award for Best Corporate: Business to Consumer PR for its relaunch. The team also won two New Generation Awards and earned a Silver for Creative Team of the Year at Promax Africa, where Showmax emerged as the most awarded streamer, claiming seven Golds.
