Emo Adams Shares Emotional Message After Family’s Cars Are Broken Into

South African television presenter, singer and entertainer Emo Adams has shared an emotional message after thieves broke into his family’s vehicles and stole valuable belongings, leaving him and his wife, Michelle Gildenhuys, shaken by the incident.

The popular entertainer took to Instagram to reveal that their cars had been targeted by criminals, resulting in the theft of their laptops. While the financial loss is significant, Adams said the emotional impact of the crime has been far more difficult to process.

“Today our cars were broken into and our laptops were stolen,” he wrote.

‘You feel violated’

Adams explained that although electronic devices can be replaced, the lingering emotional effects of being a victim of crime are much harder to overcome.

“The strange thing is it isn’t really about the laptops. Those can be replaced. We’re grateful that we’re safe and that nobody was hurt,” he shared.

He said the experience left him with a deep sense of violation and exposed the emotional toll that often follows property crime.

“It’s the feeling afterwards that’s difficult to explain. You feel violated. You feel exposed. You question how something like this can happen when you work hard, try to do the right thing and simply go about your day.”

A reminder to choose kindness

Reflecting on the broader impact of crime in South Africa, Adams said the incident reminded him how important compassion remains. He expressed sadness that some people are willing to harm strangers for personal gain and noted that similar experiences happen far too often.

Despite the ordeal, Adams chose to focus on gratitude rather than anger. He said he and his family were thankful that no one was injured and deeply appreciated the support they received from friends, loved ones and members of the public.

“Things can be replaced. People can’t,” he wrote, adding that the experience had encouraged his family to hold one another a little closer.
