DStv to Shut Down more Channels

755

DStv subscribers will soon have two fewer channels to choose from, with MultiChoice confirming that CineMagic and Magic Showcase will permanently stop broadcasting on 30 June 2026.

The channels, which are primarily available on DStv EasyView and GOtv Lite packages, are being removed as part of the broadcaster’s ongoing review of its content offering.

Which Channels Are Closing?

The two channels set to leave the platform are:

CineMagic

CineMagic is a movie channel that broadcasts for 12 hours daily and features a mix of international and African films.

Magic Showcase

Magic Showcase broadcasts for 18 hours a day and is known for rerunning popular local series, telenovelas and documentary content.

According to MultiChoice, the decision forms part of efforts to refresh its channel offering and align content with changing viewer preferences.

Part of Wider DStv Changes

The closure follows several other channel adjustments made during 2026.

Earlier this year, Tlnovelas (Channel 133) was removed and replaced by Novelas+ across selected higher-tier packages.

DStv subscribers also faced uncertainty around a number of international channels after major restructuring discussions involving brands such as CNN, TLC, Discovery, Cartoon Network, BET Africa and MTV Base. However, a last-minute agreement ensured the Warner Bros. Discovery channels remained available.

Why Are the Channels Being Removed?

MultiChoice says the decision is aimed at creating space for new content and improving the overall viewing experience for subscribers.

The broadcaster indicated that regular reviews of channel performance and audience viewing habits help shape future content decisions across both DStv and GOtv platforms.

Subscribers who regularly watch CineMagic and Magic Showcase will need to make alternative viewing arrangements from 1 July 2026.
