Primedia Studios has launched its first original production for streaming, JAN Voyage: Italy. This six-part travel and food series follows Michelin-star chef Jan Hendrik van der Westhuizen as he explores the flavours, people and landscapes of Italy. The series streams exclusively on Primedia+, the new free digital entertainment platform from Primedia.
The first three episodes drop on Friday, 21 November. The final three arrive on 28 November.
A new chapter for Primedia Studios
The studio behind hits such as The Masked Singer, Deal or No Deal and MasterChef now steps into original long-form storytelling. JAN Voyage: Italy is produced with Brainwave Productions and Lavish’d. It marks a milestone for Primedia as it expands its streaming footprint with premium, locally produced content.
A personal journey through Italy
In this series, Jan Hendrik invites viewers to join him on an intimate road trip through lesser-known regions of Italy. He visits family cafés, small food producers and hidden kitchens where recipes are passed down through generations. His dog, Elizabeth, brings warmth and humour to the journey.
Jan Hendrik shares meals with artisans, chefs and home cooks who have shaped Italian food culture. Through each encounter, he reflects on the value of simplicity, time, and the stories behind each dish.
A companion to his new cookbook
JAN Voyage: Italy also mirrors the themes in his new cookbook, JAN Voyage. The series acts as a visual extension of the pages. Viewers see the people, markets and traditions that inspired the recipes.
A proud moment for Primedia Studios
Jan du Plessis, President of Primedia Studios, says the collaboration is a significant moment. He notes that Jan Hendrik’s attention to detail and emotional storytelling offer viewers something special. He believes the series is ideal for holiday-season binge-watching.
