Losing your mother and sister on the same day is something that no one anticipates experiencing in their lives, let alone losing either. But Mariah Carey, one of the world’s best singers has unfortunately lost her mother and sister on the same day. How sad! Although her relationship with her mother and sister were a bit rocky and unstable, love always triumphs, and when moments like this, death, surfaces, it’s as if the perfect love that was embedded from the very beginning unfolds.

In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE magazine, Mariah Carey said her heart was broken. “My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day.” The “We Belong Together” singer wrote in her memoir that her story with her mother was one “of betrayal and beauty. Of love and abandonment. Of sacrifice and survival.”  She adds, “I’ve emancipated myself from bondage several times, but there is a cloud of sadness that I suspect will always hang over me, not simply because of my mother but because of our complicated journey together.”

Healing is complex. Sometimes it requires us to step back and reflect on our life, our upbringing, and our relationships, not just with family. According to https://suzanneheyn.com/, Suzanne writes: “I used to blame (my mother) for everything, but as I’ve developed spiritually, I’ve been able to take a step back and realise how we play off of each other. I’ve watched my reactions in her presence, and I’ve also been able to take a wider view into the things she does that hurt me so much.” It’s going to be a different case for Mariah as she navigates it without her mother around.

Shortly after Mariah Carey’s memoir was released in 2020, her older sister, Allison Carey, sued her for “emotional distress” resulting from the contents of the book. The filing, at New York County supreme court, called for at least $1.25m (R21.8m) in damages. Allison accused Mariah of “heartless, vicious, vindicative, despicable and totally unnecessary public humiliation” from the book. Mariah alleged that Alison would “barter her body for money or drugs”; that she drugged a 12-year-old Mariah with Valium, and offered her cocaine; and that she caused Mariah third-degree burns by throwing a cup of boiling tea on to her back. “It took years before I could accept a simple pat on the back, as most of my skin had to completely renew and repair itself,” Mariah wrote in her book.

We hope Mariah finds healing through other lovely memories she held onto. According to www.apnews.com, Carey maintained contact with her mother and even recorded a duet of “O Come All Ye Faithful/Hallelujah Chorus” for the singer’s second Christmas album in 2010.
