TKZee to share stage with Soul II Soul

Cape Town is set to be the backdrop for an unforgettable evening as South African music legends TKZee join British sensations Soul II Soul for the highly anticipated Cape Town leg of Liberty’s “An Intimate Evening” concert series at the picturesque Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden on 8 February 2025.

The Intimate Evening Series, a collaborative effort by Liberty, GRIZA Enterprises, and the esteemed Showtime Management, aims to usher in the new year with a celebration of hope and musical nostalgia. Beginning February 1 in Johannesburg at Montecasino’s Outdoor Events Area, the series will later head to Cape Town, treating audiences to breathtaking natural beauty and vibrant atmosphere at the majestic botanical gardens.

Renowned for classics like “Keep On Movin’” and the iconic “Back To Life (However Do You Want Me)”, Soul II Soul have continued to dominate the music scene since rising to fame in the late 1980s. Their inclusion in this year’s concert series promises to bring a wave of nostalgia as they perform their timeless hits, captivating audiences of all ages.

Building on this legendary line-up, the kwaito kings, TKZee, are set to take the stage and electrify the crowd. Formed in the early 90s, the band comprised Tokollo Tshabalala, Kabelo Mabalane, and Zwai Bala, quickly becoming the most successful kwaito group in South African history. Their fusion of kwaito, hip-hop, and various other genres gave rise to a sound known as “Guz” music, which resonated deeply with the nation’s youth.

Despite the tragic passing of Tokollo Tshabalala in 2022, Mabalane and Bala are committed to carrying forward the legacy of TKZee with passion and dedication. Having previously achieved a record-breaking five South African Music Awards in a single year for their album “Halloween” (1998) and performing at the 2010 FIFA World Cup Opening Ceremony, they look forward to enchanting Cape Town audiences once again.

Concert-goers can expect not only an extraordinary musical experience but also a festival-like atmosphere at Montecasino, featuring an array of food and beverages—albeit with picnic baskets prohibited. General Admission tickets at R895 come with limited seating, while the VIP experience is priced at R1995, including elevated viewing, seating pockets, canapes, and access to a private bar and restrooms for an extra touch of luxury.

In contrast, the Cape Town concert will allow fans to bring their own blankets and picnics, providing a relaxed and intimate setting to enjoy live music under the stars.

Marees Bostander, Head of Brand Strategy and Sponsorships at Liberty, reflected on the significance of this event, stating, “This unique event takes us on a nostalgic journey through the late ‘80s and ‘90s, an era synonymous with optimism, connection, and the pursuit of dreams.” He added that many attendees will share cherished memories intertwined with the music of both Soul II Soul and TKZee.

Tony Feldman of Showtime Management expressed enthusiasm about the opportunity to bring such impactful musical acts to South Africa, enhancing the concert series’ appeal. “Having TKZee back in the spotlight and on the bill for both shows is a wonderful extra facet to the offering,” he remarked.

Tickets for both concerts are now available on platforms including showtime.co.za, webtickets.co.za, and Pick ‘n Pay stores, with doors opening at 5pm in Johannesburg. Following a DJ set featuring Admiral and Jahseed Di Fireseed, concertgoers in both cities will be treated to the electrifying performances of TKZee followed by the legendary Soul II Soul.
