South African rock legends Prime Circle are set to shake the foundations of The Venue, Melrose Arch, on 1 March 2025, as they launch their highly anticipated eighth studio album, The World We Know. This event is not just a celebration of the new album, but also a showcase of their powerful new single, “Standing Over Me,” which was released to radio today in South Africa and Germany.

“Standing Over Me” addresses the harrowing topic of abuse, serving as a powerful anthem of resilience and empowerment. Gavin Edwards, the band’s new vocalist, states, “This song is about reclaiming your power. It’s a reminder that no matter what you’ve been through, you have the strength to rise above it and move forward.” The single showcases Prime Circle’s electrifying heavy rock style, a sound that has always captivated audiences through their exhilarating live performances.

After a seven-year hiatus from releasing new material, The World We Know heralds a bold new chapter for Prime Circle, melding their signature rock sound with fresh energy and introspective lyricism. The album, which debuted on streaming platforms in November 2024, features ten tracks, including the impactful singles “Better Days” and “What We Got.” These tracks have received significant airtime, currently being played on 27 radio stations across South Africa and earning upwards of 41 million impacts, according to Radiomonitor SA.

The album launch is poised to be an unforgettable night, with attendees experiencing songs from The World We Know, including a live performance of “Standing Over Me,” alongside classic hits from the band’s extensive catalogue. “We’re beyond excited to share this new music live with our fans,” says bassist Marco Gomes. “This album represents a new era for Prime Circle, and we can’t wait to celebrate it together in Johannesburg.”

Produced by Prime Circle’s longtime German collaborator Timon Seidl and engineered by South Africa’s Howie Combrink, The World We Know reflects the band’s evolution while remaining true to their rock roots. With a balance of powerful anthems, introspective ballads, and genre-blending tracks, the album illustrates Prime Circle’s growth and commitment to crafting music that resonates with audiences worldwide. This transformation has been invigorated by the addition of Gavin Edwards, leading to a shift from original plans for an EP to the creation of a full-length album brimming with fresh material.

Prime Circle, formed in 2001, has secured their status as one of South Africa’s most iconic rock bands, with multi-platinum records and sold-out tours marking their two-decade legacy. The current lineup features Gavin Edwards on vocals and guitar, Marco Gomes on bass, Dale Schnettler on drums, Neil Breytenbach on keyboards, and Dirk Bisschoff on guitar. As they continue to share stages with global legends and perform at major rock festivals, Prime Circle appears more poised than ever to push musical boundaries and inspire audiences around the globe.
