SPAR Gourmet opens in Zimbali Oasis, offering premium products, curated meals and a new boutique shopping experience led by the Anderson family.

The Anderson family is entering a bold new phase in their retail journey. After almost 30 years of running successful SPAR stores in Umhlanga and neighbouring areas, they are now set to introduce SPAR Gourmet at Zimbali Oasis. This new concept blends SPAR’s strategic direction with the family’s vision for modern, elevated grocery retail.

A New Boutique Grocery Experience

SPAR Gourmet is designed for customers who value quality and style. It offers curated gourmet meals, premium private label ranges, and exclusive imported products. The store layout is crisp and spacious, with high ceilings and natural light that create a refined atmosphere.

Shoppers can look forward to:
• luxury gifting items
• imported groceries and teas
• gluten-free and sugar-free health ranges
• Boschendal speciality products, available in SA for the first time
• meals prepared by scratch chefs in a modern Deli

The goal is to shift grocery shopping from routine to experience.

A Retail Legacy Built on Resilience

For the Andersons, this launch marks both growth and legacy. “I bought my first SPAR in 1997 after 20 years in corporate,” says Mark Anderson. “SPAR Gourmet is our fourth store. It helps us deepen our community roots while evolving with customer needs.”

Their early years were tough. Several stores were acquired after liquidations. These challenges shaped their resilience and taught them how to build sustainable retail operations in a competitive market. SPAR Gourmet brings those lessons together with innovation and fresh thinking.

Tyrone leads admin and finance.
Travis manages TOPS, risk and innovation.
Keegan oversees marketing and décor support.
Colleen leads purchasing and gifting.
Camilla supports visual merchandising.
Romey heads SPAR2U.

“We love working together. This store reflects our shared passion and skills,” Anderson says.

Their excellence was recently recognised when Park Square SPAR was named SPAR Store of the Year.

Fresh Flavours and New Store Experiences

Food lovers will find a wide range of new meal options. The Deli offers wood-fired pizzas, poke bowls, Asian-inspired dishes and healthy salads. Vida e Caffé adds a café-style touch, while a new kids play area supports family-friendly visits.

TOPS introduces a golf-inspired redesign featuring a golf cart and putting green, inspired by the nearby Ernie Els Golf Course.
